Happy Easter and Passover to all...
As a treat for my birthday my boyfriend took me to a raw restaurant, Pure Food and Wine in NYC. He also bought me their beautiful book which they sell at the restaurant. I've read postings where this place was mentioned and thought some of you might like to know what I thought as a devoted raw foodist....
Simply stated, it was fantastic in every way.
I can't say enough about the food - beautifully presented and luscious. I had thai vegetable wraps for an appetizer. That recipe's in their book and I made it last weekend at home - delicious and easy, despite the long list of ingredients and apparant complexity - it's really not complicated and came out terrific. Eric had the nori veggie rolls, also excellent. For dinner he had the lasagna and I had the pad thai. But the greatest of all was dessert - he didn't want any because we were stuffed but I made him order the raw ice cream. It was the most decadent ice cream I've ever had (recipe also in their book) and this is coming from a hard core Hagen Dasz fan before I went raw....I ordered the chocolate torte cake, also unbelievable....The service was wonderful and the server very knowlegable...only downside was the price - pretty up there, but worth it for a treat.
After dinner we asked for a tour of their kitchnens which they were happy to give us. I've never seen such a clean restaurant kitchen and of course not at all hot and no sweaty out of sorts cooks - just a bunch of jovial folks preparing beautiful dishes. There were about 24 food dehydrators - Excaliburs - all lined up, food processors, vitamixes on the counters. They took us beyond that to another prep room which had even bigger dehydrators by another company and a chef was breaking up dehydrated tortillas into chips. Next door they have a take out shop where we purchased some truly delicious chocolate pudding to bring home for my mom to try.
SO if you're ever in the NYC area I highly recommend this delicious place. If you can't get there, at least consider buying the book.
