No one ever posts on the Raising Raw Kids board. Is there any mommies out there or mommies-to-be who I can talk to???

Well, I'm a rawmommie...hence the name.
My children are not raw, but eat a lot of raw foods, so I don't tend to post about them very often. I homeschool my kids, so I'm home with them all day, every day and I usually use my computer time to GET AWAY. LOL! ;)

I am a raw Mommy of six and a half! I am due with number seven in September. Three of my six embrace raw, the other three will try stuff occasionally, although one really would rather eat cereal all day, if I let her.
I feel silly sometimes posting about them. They are wonderful and funny about raw. If the food processor is going, I have one that runs in the kitchen, pushes a chair up to the counter, climbs up and starts stamping his feet until he can have a taste of whatever it is. He is getting that way about the dehydrator as well.
One goes along for the ride, If I am eating oranges for lunch, she is more than happy to do it too. If Dad is making eggs and toast, she will do that as well. My teenage daughter made coconut macaroons and ate them all without putting them into the dehydrator!
so, I guess I have funny stories like that... I am trying to slowly introduce raw to them. They are all very keenly aware that I eat different. They also know that they want me to stay raw. Mommy is happier and more fun raw, they have not translated that to themselves yet. :)
Would love to share more with you....
Hey Sami!
I'm not a raw mom, but plan to be one day! I thought I'd pass this on to you:

I'm a proud "raw mama" of one incredible 19 month old little girl- who eats mostly raw foods herself-- exception is when we visit her grandma who is ceaseless in asking if she can try this and that. It's always interesting to notice changes in her bowel movements (as she is so young and her system works so well) after she has eaten cooked food.

Hi!
I'm a raw mommy.. but my son (3 years old), isn't totally raw. He eats lots of fruits, and loves fresh vegi juices. He eats a lot of grains though too. oh- he LOVES raw carob pudding made with the avacados. Man do we buy a lot of avacados! :) My husband & I are in the process of expanding our family too... we're in the midst of an adoption. We're adopting a little girl from India... we think she's in Pune. She'll be almost 2 by the time we are able to travel & get her, so it will be interesting to see what kind of diet she's used to! I've never even looked at the "raising raw kids" board.. but I will right now!

Hello everyone!!
Amanda -
How exciting for you to be adopting a little girl from India! You must be so happy!!
I am a raw mommy. I have 5 children. 1 is all raw, our baby girl who is 16 months old. She has been all raw since I started eating raw about a year ago. She has had cooked food on occasion when someone else gave it to her and she reacts very badly with it. She will get a runny nose almost immediately after eating something cooked. So now I tell people that she is sensitive to foods and reacts badly to sugar and flour ect and that way they don't push about what she eats (or rather about what she doesn't eat). People are amazed when I break out an avacado and feed it to her straight out of the shell. They can't believe that this little tiny sweetheart gobbles down avacadoes like candy!! She also like to eat marinated mushrooms, the tangier the better. She is funny!
My other four children and my husband are not raw, but love my raw creations. My children love fruit and green smoothies. They also like veggies with dip.
I also homeschool my children and use this board to get "away" every now and then and re-connect with the raw world out there. I would like to get my other family members all raw. I am doing it a little at a time.

Hey all~ I'm so glad to hear that there are others out there! It seems like when I post on this board no one ever gets back to me or has much to say that's helpful. I'm trying to do as much raw as I can (95%) with this pregnancy to see if it really makes a difference in my labor.
I don't know if anyone else ever tried going raw during pregnancy. I'm a little freaked because I'm losing weight and my mom keeps telling me that my baby is eating my toxins. On the next breath she tells me that she's not worried about this baby at all (she's also my midwife for the second time).
So, no one else seems to have their kids on 100% raw. My son is almost 15 months old and he's not either, but my husband would like him to be. He's kind of small already, probably in the fiftieth percentile. I'm not sure I could handle having him lose weight!! He loves his eggs and his goat's milk. At this point I am just slowly transitioning.
To Ella: I want to go to that event but my husband has classes online tonight!! :( Thank you for showing that to me. I got all excited and was going to sign up, but then I realized that it's wednesday and Clint will be on the computer all evening. *sighs*
to Aledwards~ Let me know how the adoption process goes. My husband and I are seriously considering adopting once we are better off financially. Probably from the united states, though...still, I'm curious!

Hi
Actually I do have one who is 100% raw. I don't feed her anything cooked. She is also very tiny for her age. She is 16 months old and weighs 17 pounds, but she is very proportioned and looks so healthy. She never gets sick unless someone slips her something she shouldn't have (like a cracker). But I don't ever feed her anything cooked. Sometimes it would be easier because all her siblings are eating cooked, but her little system is so pure that I don't want to mess that up. So she is 100%, and hopefully someday the others will be too.

I am a raw mommy too. I have four cihldren. None of them are all raw but they are eating more and more raw foods and noticing a difference in how they feel when they do.
I went all raw at the beginning of my third trimester with my fourth child. I did it because I normally get migraines at least weekly during the last trimester. Going raw helped that a lot. I only had two the whole time.
I didn't detox at all during my pregnancy. I did lose some weight then but that is normal for me at the end of my pregnancy. I also had tons of energy that whole time instead of being extremely fatigued like everyone says you should be. It was really nice.
I don't know what to do with the baby when he starts food. I really would like for him to eat all raw but I don't know if my husband will go for it. Eventually it would get very hard because his brother and sisters would be eating cooked food in front of him.
My two year old really loves raw foods and will willingly eat them before other foods. It is funny. She is a raw foodist at heart.

I'm a raw Mommy. My twins are 2 years old and very healthy. They eat lots of raw and if it's not raw, it's a whole food. The only time it's not whole foods is if they are somewhere that I can not keep an eye on them (which doesn't happen much).
My son is 36 lbs! But doesn't have an ounce of extra fat, he has a beautiful masculine body. My daughter is 27 lbs. with the tiniest waist.
I'm so proud of them. Especially when they choose a cucumber or apple for a meal!
I have a more recent photo under my journal.

Oh crum. I just had a whole message wrote out and my son came up, pounded the keyboard, and erased it all!!!!!!!!! ERRR!
I'll write more later. Basically, I just had an ultrasound and baby's healthy, but I came too close to passing out and it took me a long time to recover. I was so weak and faint after the us that my mom gave me fish. I wasn't hungry as I'd just had cashews and dried mango before I went, but it seemed to help. Faith4U did you have any problems when you went raw in your pregnancy???
I'll write more later all.

I will let you know! We're just finishing up our home study (social worker checking us out & lots of background & medical checks)... and once we're approved, all our info will be sent to India. It's an amazing process. You just have to sit back & feel confident that it will take just as long as it's supposed to... otherwise, you could drive yourself nuts with the waiting! Yeah...we're not really financially good for this either! ha! The name of the game is: Home Equity Loan. But, we just know that our daughter is there, and so the money doesn't matter as much. I'm here if you have any questions at all! -and I'm bound to post a picture of her when we get one! :)

Hi, I have read many of you have a concern about weight issues with your children being raw. With six I can tell you they all have thier own set point. My 18 month old weighs in at 25 pounds and he is the one that will choose raw over cooked any day. as long as I offer it, he will choose it. He was the one with a weight problem in the begining and after going raw, he grew and stabilized.
Then I have a son who is six one, at 16, and weighs about 225 pounds. My 13 year old daughter is about 5'4'' and she weighs in at 118 pounds but wears a size 3! So, I really think that each child will adjust to where they need to be just as we do as adults.

I know what you mean. I am usually typing with the baby on my lap, not an easy task.
What have been eating?
I have had times during my last two pregnancies when I would feel faint. It was always earlier in the pregnancy and gone by the third trimester. It usually helped to add another meal mid morning until it went away. I normal don't have problems with hypoglycemia though.
I didin't have any problems during my pregnancy at all. In fact it was the best one yet. Going raw didn't change the birth process at all though. :(
I have never been all raw besides being pregnant and nursing so I don't really know how much food is normal for me to eat.
I did eat and still do eat while nursing way more than what most people on these boards eat. Make sure you are eating enough. I know in the beginning I was eating a lot less than I needed because I filled up so quickly on these foods and my stomach was cramped with the baby squishing it up.
I started detoxing two weeks after the baby was born.
So how long have you been raw and what are you eating?
Good luck!!

Oh Amanda,
We want to adopt two children from Liberia so badly. The finances are the major obstacle. I wish there was a way for it to be easier. I am afraid to do it on credit and struggle trying to pay it off but we both long to adopt so very badly.
I am so happy for you!!
Congratulations!! :p

This wasn't caused by hypoglycemia, but I have struggled with that A LOT. I think it's partly anxiety...and a HUGE part of it was that they had me lying on my back for too long and that vena something or other got blocked off. I have a very deep-lying baby this time...I'm 6 months pregnant and most people don't even know!
I'm sorry to hear that doing raw didn't help your labor faith4u!!! I was counting on that. *sobs* My last labor was 6 hours and all my contractions were between 1 and 2 minutes apart....usually about 30 seconds of rest if I was lucky! It was tremendous.
My son is already kind of small, the only thing I worry about is that my family lives right down the street...and I think they might feel I'm a bit fanatical (about EVERYTHING), so I don't want to do anything that might freak them out. My son is high-raw right now, I'm not sure if I'M ready for this! LOL. I know, it sounds selfish, I just wanna be sure.
oh, and TwinYoga, your twins have a huge size difference!! That's so funny, I never think about twins being so different. Are their personalities really different too??

I'm a raw mommie to a 9 year old boy and 6 year old girl. They are both pretty good about raw, but go downhill quick with dad (we're divorced) or grandparents. My kids have smoothies or just fruit for breakfast. I pack my son's lunch so he gets spouted bread with organic peanut butter and honey...every day. I can't break him of this. Then he gets a fruit for his "fruit break" at school and a fruit for dessert at lunch. I'm not so good with my daughter. She eats in the school cafeteria. But, next year she'll be at my son's school, our church school, and I'll pack her lunch every day also. She's much more flexible in her food choices.
In the evening, if I don't have some recipe made up like zucchini spaghetti, which they eat, I'll fix them something else...cooked I know. But, still "healthy" (that's relative, huh?). They usually also have raw veggies or a salad with whatever cooked thing it is and fruit for dessert.
I usually just log in and hit the "new posts" button so I'm not real up to date on the Raw Kids threads.
Amanda, great to hear you are going to adopt!!! Both my kids are adopted. My son is from Russia and my daughter is from Kazakhstan. You will cry with joy when you see your child in person for the first time. I promise. :D

Thank you Faith4u! I wish it weren't so expensive as well! There is a $10k tax credit though for expenses incured during an international adoption, so that helps a bunch! And there are a lot of orgnaizations out there to help with expenses as well... like grants and all. I wish you guys the best of luck! ...and when the time is right, it will all just fall into place for you guys!

Hi I'm Elian and am still new to the raw thing 31 days. Hubby and 6 year old son aren't raw so it's a little challenging on the weekends (plus with eating at relatives and friends houses). The great news is that the more raw I eat, the more they will eat. Partly because there is hardly any cooked food in the house. So that is wonderful.
We too are in the adoption process. We are in the middle of our home study (they visit twice) and we have to have a home health inspection (we pray there isn't lead paint). We are looking for a boy 4 and under from DSS. I'm actually going to try and lactate again in case we get a child under 1. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks everyone for sharing your stories! :)

So you all have convinced me to look more into the raw kids section... I just always look at the new posts, and that's about it.
I loved reading all of your posts! We're all so blessed to have these little wonders (and some not so little!) running around our feet. -and what a chance we have right now... to teach them healthy eating by example. Yay for all of us! :)

I am a mother of two, ages 3 and 16 months. I have a really hard time getting my 3 yr. old to taste anything that is green or 'weird looking' or has sprouts sticking out!!! My 16 mth. old will eat just about anything we give her(she loves kale salad with avocado/garlic dressing that I make, she loves GARLIC, just like her mama!) but, I am having an awful time feeding my little guy... :( I feel so guilty when we sit down to lunch and his is something not as nutritious and not raw! He hardly eats veggies... I put liquid chlorophyll in his water because I feel that at least that's a help. He'll only eat carrots if they are in soup and soft. He eats fruit and loves smoothies, Hey... maybe I can sneak some veggies in his 'fruit smoothies'??? If you've got any suggestions or tried any recipes with your kids, I'd love for you to share... Thanks.

I raised three children mostly raw, they're all adults now. It was fun and we enjoyed all the wonderful fruits, juices, sprouted things, etc. We did home school a lot of the time but when they were in school, it had a poor effect sometimes. They're all still vegetarian, as is my grandson, but not all raw (I still am though).

Ella,
I appreciate all the work you have done on my behalf about raw pregnancy. I am on track with that. I read shazzie's diary. Sounds like she wasn't able to stay raw, but her baby is healthy. My baby is on track with her growth and I am on track with staying raw. One of the things I am excited about being raw and pregnant is that I don't FEEL pregnant. I usually feel awful and gain a ton of weight right at the begining. This time I am still in my same pants that I was wearing before becoming pregnant and I feel great.
You and Bill take care. Looks like he has some awesome classes coming up!

i am a raw mommy! i have a almost 4 year old (he is mostly raw & is vegan & very big for his age) & a almost 9 month old girl who is 100% raw. she also a good sized baby. i have been high raw for 6 years (like 85%+) & 100% raw for 18 days now. i have to agree that as long as the kiddos are eating as much as they want when they are hungry they have their own growth curves.
have you tried hemp seeds with your pregnancy? i was told that these are excellent for nursing & pregnancies.

Leigh,
How to great to hear from others who are adopting! We're adopting an older girl (13 years old) from Kazakhstan. We told our social worker we were vegetarian, but she wrote "healthy eaters" instead on the forms for fear that the authorities in Kazakh would think we were crazy otherwise and probably not let us adopt. I'm a little worried about how the raw food might affect her. We've decided that the whole process will be so traumatic for her that we're not going to push anything on her. Having eaten a diet primarily of meat and potatoes her whole life, I don't want to add more stressful change until she's ready and/or willing. In the meantime, we got a book of Kazakh recipes so we can at least figure out how to make vegetarian versions (baby steps).
