I'm 52 years old (but don't let that scare you, I never grew up, haha) and have been transitioning to raw most the longest period of time in the past four years. I have sustained 50 lbs. weight loss from raw eating (though I lost 120 lbs. from raw eating back in the '90s and over a period of years gained it all back after going back to SAD and smoking tobacco). It was really, really hard to come back to raw after the shameful feeling I had from gaining ALL that weight back, but finally I really HAD to do it if I wanted to live and enjoy life at all -- and I'm SO glad I did..!

Things are just now getting better and better for me. I am feeling SO good from eating raw (though not perfectly yet, it's getting better all the time!).

Raw RAWKS...! I want to some day, hopefully not too far in the future, be either working full-time in raw pursuits and/or living in a raw community or commune.

Hi Michele! You're lucky to be in Austin. There are some really cool raw potlucks in south Austin and David and Yemiah's. I just moved away from there a few months back and I really miss the Whole Foods. :)

Welcome feloow Texan. Although I am from Dallas..I welcome you. Yes, seems that area has more raw events and places then does Dallas. I just wish I knew how to get something moving here. There are a few pot luck places around here.. but WE NEED MORE!!.. I am turning 50 in June...

Welcome Michele!

I use to live in Austin, my parents and sisters still live there. It's a great place to be for that healthy food atmosphere!

Raene, I miss the Whole Foods also! There is an Earth Fare here in Charlotte, NC, but honestly IMHO, it doesn't compare to Whole Foods. There are plans for a Whole Foods here soon though. I'm excited!

Wow, so many sweet people here! ;)

Oh yes, I love the raw deli at the downtown Whole Foods -- is a great place for special treats (especially love to get the "Almost Cheesecake"!). When my bro passed away back the first of March my best friend got take out there of about 7 different entrees and met me at the park with them for a treat. What a friend...! And how cool that it could be done, LOL! I hope folks in Austin will give the raw deli here LOTS of support, because when it gets successful enough Whole Foods will start putting the raw delis in more and more of their stores all over the country!

What about Raw Heaven in Dallas? Aren't they about to open a raw cafe or something like that?

Oh yes, and I've been to David and Yemiah's -- but they live soooo far south that I have only gone for a couple special events (one was a lecture by David Wolfe, another was a raw food prep class with Juliano, and both were great!!)

24 carrots!

I am here in Austin too! We can put together some pot lucks and such. I am having a chef class this Saturday at my house and there will be more to come, if you know anyone interested... So, let's stay in touch and pull together a great big support group here in Austin!

Thanks for the welcomes!

Oh yes, would be easy start something in Austin. Too bad I don't have a big enough apartment to have rawlucks at my place! Sometimes I have tiny ones, though haven't done that for a while!

What about Raw Heaven in Dallas? Aren't they about to open a raw cafe or something like that?

I think she is still looking for another place. The place she did have on Lower Greenville.. Well, the landlord made everyone move out of that block.. and this was right after she opened. She still has her delivery service... but I do not think she has found any new place yet.. I could be wrong.

Are you guys talking about Cynthia Beavers' place? She has switched directions and now does national shipping/catering. Here's a link:
http://www.purerawcafe.com/

In the meantime, we need a restaurant or SOMETHING resembling a raw food dine-out experience in Houston!! The only one we had just shut down due to one of the owners passing away. The remaining partner hopes to open again, but isn't sure where or when. In the meantime, you guys in Austin just enjoy that Whole Food raw bar (I say this with great sarcasm and jealousy :p ).

I have a good friend in Austin that has a wonderful, booming raw business. Her name is Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo - have you met her? I highly recommend her classes and events. She has movie nights, potlucks, classes, holiday events, and more. I believe the web site is: http://www.elivinghealth.com/
It is, I just checked it. Seriously, get in touch with her sometime. She and her team are great resources for raw.

Welcome and hugs from a fellow Texan!

Someone else recently joined from Austin, Texas. I mentioned to her that there's an Optimum Health Institute in Austin. OHI is a holistic, raw food health "retreat." I go to the one in San Diego, and I love it. In any case, WELCOME!
