Hi everyone!
I am new to this forum and tossing around the idea of going raw. I'm wondering if anyone can answer my questions? 1) If I do a cleanse, ie: Clean Start how long should I wait before trying to get pregnant? 2) If I do decide to go raw should I be in the raw habit for a certain amount of time before getting pregnant? 3) how long does it take before my body is toxin free? Or does that depend on how toxic I am to begin with?
4)Does anyone have any experience with muscle/spine misalignment being relieved through the raw diet? 5)Here are my concerns with the raw diet, can anyone share experiences: I am hypoglycemic, so I use the "Zone Diet" to maintain my insulin levels and live normally. Will the protein in the raw diet be enough to stabilize my insulin? (I have to STRICTLY follow the 40 0/0 protein rule or else I am plagued by migraines, etc) And I (and my kids) are allergic to cow's milk, (not eggs), cheese, basically all dairy except eggs, even goat's milk. Plus, I just realized that I am allergic to soy products. Will the raw diet help me? Or make my life worse? (It's all a delicate balance, you know.) I don't know anyone on this diet, I only recently heard about it for the first time on The O'Reilly Factor.
I would love some insights, advice, support, etc from anyone who has dealt with these issues.
Thanks,
Nickster

Hello, and welcome,
Carol Alt got you interested? So you are a little nervous about this  That is okay, and also a good thing. Do your research, take time and enjoy your journey. Although I am not a doctor, I have had training in a few things, and will provide a response based on my research and my own journey as a diabetic. You are looking for support - this is one of the best places I have found to do so. How old are your children? Are you guys veggie now?
Discussing pregnancy (my baby is 17 years old, so I dunno) - there is a website that may assist you: http://www.thegardendiet.com/ and do a search here, as there was a thread about it. On the www.fromsadtoraw.com, Melissa and Molly posted her journal there as she went through her pregnancy and she was remarkable. You can write the board owner if it is not active and ask her to share it with you. She also tells you her daily menu.
There are wonderful milks and cheesed made from nuts - my most picky friends love cold almond milk and they are stuanch meat and potatoes people. On this board and www.fromsadtoraw.com. you will find loads of recipes that will assist you as will folks on this board.
You wrote: Will the protein in the raw diet be enough to stabilize my insulin? undefined", as a diabetic, our symptoms are very similar, and I have been very successful with balancing my insulin levels. I was waking up with high blood sugar levels, and after taking my meds, I could drop down to 50 and shoot back up again in a matter of 30 minutes- being raw, my levels are wonderful and I stay balanced the entire day.
As a person who has no thyroid gland - soy is not a good thing for me, and I don't miss it - I recently found a recipe for raw tofu and have decided against it, since I don't feel I have been raw long enough to test my body.
There are reports of persons who were plagued with migranes, allergies and other maladies that have shared their stuggles, challenges and victories - check out the journal section here.
I believe that your body on raw will cleanse it self if feed properly, just as anything there are junk raw foods as well as healthy raw foods. I don't know what type of cleanse you meant and I don't want to assume. For me, as I continue to eat raw, my bodily functions have changed and my eliminations are frequent, but not sickly ( you understand). I, am probably extremly toxic, 10 surgeries in 10 years, loads of medications and radiation, but I feel my body become more alive. My skin has begun to change, there is a dark spot on face, which indicates a dirty liver, and it is now lighter, swelling in my feet and hands is being alleviated without a fluid tablet, and of course I see balance in my blood sugar. I notice now that I need to dry brush my skin, it is as a new layer is emerging and I am slimmer (wahoo).
There are great books to assist you as well - Alissa Cohen;s book is a great book to start with www.alissacohen.com, then again look at the links on www.fromsadtoraw. The Boutenko's -raw family is just that about a family who went raw and they were toxic, and also the 12 step guide. I am sure you will recive a lot of responses here. Be well, and give it a try. I post in the journal section - I don't know if it will be helpful, but there is an idea of how I am esting ;)

Hi Nickster and welcome!
I actually posted the same question about how long to be raw before conceiving a child. Nobody was ever able to answer that question, so I took it up with my Chiropractor who is awesome at muscle response testing/Applied Kinesiology. If you can find somebody that can 'talk' to your body that way, your body will tell you. Of course, yes, how long you detox has a whole lot to do with how toxic you are! But we are never completely 'clean' because we live in a toxic environment. So...my body told me 'a couple months' on Raw, which is probably wise. You definitely do not want your baby to become an experiment for you while you are changing your diet so much. I also recommend finding a doctor who understands raw and can work with you on a regular basis when you become pregnant - that way they can help your body to stay on top of things and support you while raw.
As for a fast/cleanse, make sure you are not doing that while pregnant as it will toxify your fetus. I imagine that once you have transitioned out of /finished a cleanse you are fine.
That being said, I personally would recommend at least 2 months raw, or 6 on the safer side depending on how your diet has been before Raw, and to be TOTALLY safe, give it a year before you get pregnant.
Again, only you and your body know!
Cheers,

Hi Nickster!
I just wanted to add one more tiny little thing. If you are going by what Carol Alt said just know that she isn't a raw vegan. SHe consumes raw meat, fish, cheese, and milk. If that is something you might be interesed in then you should definitely research it. Raw meat is nothing to mess around with with the problems with todays bacteria. You would want to make sure that you are getting good quality meat and dairy not to mention especially fish. I shouldn't generalize BUT it seems as though most people on this board are vegan (no animal products) with the exception of honey. And I personally feel that I am able to get enough protein being a raw vegan but it is a very individual choice. I wish you the best of health on your new pursuit!

P.S. I just wanted to add taht I read Carol Alts new book and it wasn't bad however I don't agree with all of it (you know, the meat thing) HOWEVER, there were some good recipes in the back of the book! AND she looks great so whatever she is doing must be right for her!

Heya'll...
I just had a beautiful baby boy...David Oliver. I can tell you this... one of the main benefits that a raw diet provides is pretty simple:
It's a diet that provides a LOT more potassium than sodium.
Google this : (pregnancy potassium) http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGIH_en___US252&q=pregnancy+potassium
My WHOLE body (every cell) worked to my delight throughout my whole pregnancy. And in as quick as 3 months I've bounced back.
Sometimes the simple truths in life are the most profound.
Good Luck!
Also...FYI: Carol Alt (celebrity, model , raw foodist, yada yada) has a great raw food site you might wanna check out: Carol Alt's Raw Food Site (http://www.rawnutrition.com)
Ciao!!!

rawfoodsupport.com is an excelletn website, there are many people there healing from diabetes, hypoglycemia, etc. it's a tremendous resource for info. i like this forum too but that one is way busier and has some serious sciency type who are fountains of great info.

Nickster,
I don't have any data or anything, but my husband is insulin dependent, and when he is eating raw he doesn't have to have his pump hooked up to him. He has just started raw again two days ago, and is already having to adjust his levels to a far lower level.
Hope this helps!

The main reason I went raw 2 1/2 years ago was because of migraines during my third trimester. I tend to get them once or twice per week for the last three months of my pregnancy.
After I went raw, I only got two more that entire pregnancy. It was amazing!!
Good luck.

i dont think there are any rules like when to get pregnant etc......i feel like when the baby wants to come to you she will come no matter how "clean" you are.
also, when you are pregnant everything just becomes weird. like i threw up anything raw, so i started eating more cooked food. i know many have had successful raw pregnancies, so everyone is different.
i was so stressed out during my pregnancy - i dont even want to write all the stuff i put in my body - but i had an easy home birth, i recovered quickly and my son is gorgeous and healthy....
i think it was the yrs of raw before
