Hello, I just introduced myself in the other forum but thought I'd post a little more here. I just received Alyssa's book and DVD's in the mail yesterday. I want to start the 30 day raw challenge Feb. 1st. and I would start cold turkey today but every time I do cold turkey, I get extremly severe detox symptoms. Migraines and nausea so bad that I can't function and I have all the responsibilities of running a household including driving kids to and from school. There's no way I can afford to literally be bed-ridden while I go through detox. Even on a weekend, still too much to do and far too painful to face.

So, that's why I'm waiting for Feb. 1st. I hope to slowly wean myself off sugar and prosessed foods over the next few weeks so that when I do go cold turkey, it'll be a little easier on me. Does it sound like it would work? I sure hope so and any advice would be very much appreciated.

Also, when I go through detox this bad, I'm pretty much forced to take Tylenol and the likes just to halfway function. I know this is probably a no-no but I figure it's better than putting both SAD food AND tylenol into my body when I eat bad. First get rid of one and then the other I suppose...what do you think? Thanks and God bless.

Welcome to the board!! Most of us know exactly how you feel, and there are many different opinions on how to handle this. Mine is do what is best for YOU. Some just weather the first withdrawals and go on . Others work up yo it. Yes it will work either way. Personally I hung out here as a guest to begin with and read all day long for several days. Then I went into practice....and practice, and...well you get the pic. It comes easier as you feel better, but until you get the toxins out, you will have withdrawal and detox.

ShannonAnna,
Hi! Maybe instead of going totally cold turkey you could incorporate some steamed veggies, rice, or some cooked vegan food every day to slow your detox down (while staying mostly raw). The more fats you eat (raw nuts, seeds, oils, etc.) the slower you will detox as well.
Let us know how you're doing!

Hi ShannonAnna,
I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. A friend suggested that I make some brown rice (enough for several days) and eat a small bowl of it whenever I feel like putting the brakes on the intense detox discomfort. (I sometimes put a tiny bit of sesame oil and shoyu in the rice.) It works! Keep everything else in your diet raw and as much organic as you can. (Makes a difference.) I don't have to do the rice trick any more (2.5 months 100% raw now) but I did in the beginning. Hope this helps.

Thanks for everyone's replies and advice. Yes, I think I'll maybe just do mostly raw but have something healthy cooked at night to at least slow down the detox. I'd really like to be ready for the 30 day challenge by the first of Feb. so hopefully I'll be over the worst by then. That's still 18 days away so I think I can do it!

thanks again :)

Slow is best as long as you do go through severe detox.
