I'm a single mom of 2 children, a 16 year old boy and 11 year old girl. I'm into alternative health care. I am an acupuncturist mainly, also do Reiki and EFT therapies. I love my work, and I love my children.

This is my 2nd attempt at being raw. My first attempt was last November, 2005. But I wasn't clear about my reasons for being raw, it simply began as a diet to lose weight. I've been raw now since February 21, 2006, started out in early Feb/06 at 70% to transition, and now I'm proud to be as close to 100% as I can muster. A big change for this former SAD food lover. I had my life turned around by stumbling upon some online journals of raw foodists who have lost a lot of weight by eating raw. I am hoping to release a lot of weight, over 100 lbs if that is what is destined to be. At first I thought that was my whole reason for being raw. That reason wasn't enough though, and I fell back into eating SAD foods after only 1 week of being raw. Then I discovered David Wolfe's book, The Sunfood Diet Success System, and for me it finally sank in that raw is really about healing the planet.

And now I am here, and looking forward to sharing and learning and growing. I've read many of the posts, and I am excited about being a part of the Raw Movement.

Hello, and I send a big bunch of raw healing hugs to all,
Judy

There's actually a raw group in TO that meets regularly... let me know if you need details. Also MANY restaurants... at least 5 cafe/restaurant/take aways that have all or large # choices of raw! LUCKY LUCKY YOU!!

Australia still has to yet open it's first raw restaurant.

Have fun!

Hello Mina from Barrie! Good to hear from another Ontarian. Are you involved with any raw food groups?

Sheryl, Thank you for your welcome, and yes, I would love to hear about the raw group in Toronto. I've heard a lot of great things about Australia, it's a shame you don't have a raw food restaurant yet.

Judy :)

You can find details on the TVA (Toronto Vegetarian Association) Raw Vegan Group here http://www.veg.ca/tva/tvagroups.html

There is also a group on Meetup http://rawfood.meetup.com/191/?gj=sj6 (which may be the same group - I don't know).

And the TVA raw pages for raw resources: http://www.veg.ca/directory/raw.html (I am saddened to see that Supersprouts has closed - so sad). This is not a complete listing though - it's missing quite a few raw cafe's in TO.

We're back in TO in August for a wedding - maybe we'll see you at an event then!!

Cheers,
Sheryl

There is nothing in Barrie. I'm trying to find people that would want to get together so we can have a potluck once in a while. so far nothing. I homeschool my kids so I know a lot of families and I'm shocked to see what people eat and what they feed their kids. it is sad but what can I do???
anyways I'm glad you are in this forum you will learn a lot of good things and you'll get a lot of help if you need it.
good luck!!!

Sheryl, thank you for the links to the Raw groups, you are simply the best! I hope we do meet at a raw food event in August when you're in Toronto. I'll try to keep in touch, let you know if I plan to be at a raw food meeting in August.

Hey there Ashton from Oakville, thanks for the welcome! I took a peak at your journal, I like your writing and your honesty. The entries I read really speak to me. I'm glad to see that you're moving forward into raw and away from the pain. Bravo!

Mina, that's too bad that there isn't a group in Barrie. Barrie isn't THAT far away from Toronto, maybe you and I could meet up, either in Barrie, or at a halfway point, or in Toronto if you like. Let me know, it would be a real treat to find out more about how raw is helping you and your children. I'm extremely impressed with them being raw as well, AND being homeschooled. That takes a lot of dedication and love on your part, a BIG pat on the back to you!

I prefer it to LIVE...amazing desserts....chocolate strawberry cake!

Email me if you ever want to meet up there!

I am new to this site...I am the mother of two a 3 year old and a 6 year. I am married--however mostly the cook in the house...
I am also in the healing modalities for years. Ten years ago I went raw for six months. However at that time I was eating a lot of sprouted bread which made me hungry.
After just recently weaning my daugter from nursing and need to take care of my body and nursing so long... I have been wanting to go raw and get more energy---I found that go 100% was much easier and I have been raw now for 3 in 1/2 weeks...
I also drink my own urine which assists with the healing process and cravings.
I have been doing this for years but with the raw it makes everything deeper, faster and more intense... Would like to hear about how your a feeling and managing with your own cleansing. Lwynne

Lwynne,

Welcome! You might be interested to know that almost all health food store sprouted bread is cooked! So it was likely the constant addition of cooked that made you continue craving!

Cheers,
Sheryl
