Greetings,

Who is currently walking/jogger or an advid walker/jogger?
I am currently walking 5-6 days a week at least 2 miles per day depending on the weather ;) . I am looking to walk/jog (beginner) next week any tips,on how to begin with out hitting a boredom streak?

If you have an iPod or other mp3 player, you can listen to music while walking/jogging.

You can take this time to say positive affirmations about yourself and about your life. Look at walking/jogging as a time for yourself, appreciate the weather and the beauty of nature.

ditto to heabrooks post. the mp3 player is critical for me for regular jogging. right now I alternate outdoor jogging 2 or 3 times/week and the gym 2 or 3 times/week. I jog in the mornings on a beatiful wildlife preserve trail that crests a canyon and has an ocean view at parts of it. My guess is that the trail is about 4.5 miles in length. The scenery really helps, with the rabbits scampering around and the many birds. The trail also has some really challenging hills, so I am always challenging myself to see how well/hard I can push myself up and down them. I also challenge myself to see how fast of a time I can complete the trail in (my record so far is 46 minutes). I think setting improvement goals is really important to stay motivated.

I walk anywhere from 5-7 miles, almost daily. and sometimes I jog for 45 minutes, with a 5 min walking warmup and cooldown. Jeff Galloway's site, www.jeffgalloway.com has a great training schedule for beginning joggers to avoid injury. It's basically a 2:1 ratio jogging to walking. Kmik who posts here, ran a half marathon recently using this method and did great.

I walk/jog thru a beautiful park with canal and birds and trees, and then onto a bike path along a beautiful road. And I usually have my mp3 with music or my favorite spiritual teachers programs...these days, Asleep at the Wheel and the Rolling Stones are my faves, along with Abraham! Or it's just me and my thoughts in the now. Fabulous!

I am so joyful doing this that it's my favorite part of the day...usually early morning! Love it!

I just hit 5 miles a runafter a winter of Incline walking and lazy jogging on the treadmill, right now 3-4 times a week soon will be almost daily as it get warmer.

Fighting boredom..change it ! I run in town on the sidewalk, or down on the river dike path or along the cross country type river path, or up a really steep long hill....different path everyday. I run with no headset so I can enjoy the peace of the run.

I walk 1 to 1-1/2 hours almost every day. I'm reluctant to add jogging as my knees are majorly messed up (come on raw body when are you going to get around to healing them?!?) though I did commit to doing the Chicago Marathon in October with other LOLF teachers. Hmmmm ... I may see if they'll add "strolling" to the approved walk/run categories. Just kidding, of course. At least as far as the strolling goes. I do walk at a brisk pace - long legs, ya know - but am not jogging as I have no plans for surgery.

I run approximately 2 miles per day outdoors and, if I have to hit the gym, I run 3+ miles on the treadmill.

Currently training to run a 7 mile race at the end of July. Just completed my first 5K run this past weekend.
