Does anyone have a recipe for starbuck's mock frap. I thought there was a thread with a recipe but I can't find it. Thanks,

Raw vegan frappucino? Wow, I'm down. :p
I believe that some people think brazil nut milk tastes a bit coffee-like, so you could freeze that and blend it with some carob/cacao and agave/honey. I haven't tried it, but it does sound good!

if you tell me what a frapuccino tastes like, I can sub raw for it,
so let me know what this thing is
sounds like a mocha? maybe?
hot or cold
coffee and chocolate?
is it sugary, or not sugary or just a little bit?
is it icy, or frothy?
let me know what one is, and I'll see what I can do for you.
I LOVE A CHALLENGE.

Hi rawpriestess,
A frappuccino (this is the real spelling - LOL) is coffee flavoured, quite sweet, with crushed ice. That is the base flavour. Some people add mocha/chocolate flavouring to it, but that is in addition to the coffee flavour. Also, lots of other flavours can be added.
Good luck with your experimenting. I look forward to your results. I am going to take a crack at it as well, but am waiting for some supplies to arrive first. I was addicted to them for many years and am pleased with the thought of a raw/healthy version.

I'm sure RP will have lots of great ideas for you, as usual :) , but I just wanted to suggest that you use frozen nut milk instead of ice to get the "icey" texture. I find that nut milks have rather delicate flavors, and if I put ice (that is, frozen water) in them to make shakes of any kind, they just get too watery. It works a lot better for me if I make ice cubes out of nut milk, and then blend the frozen nut milk cubes with fresh nut milk to get the slushiness we all love. It just seems to keep the flavor intact better.
Good luck!

Rawpriestess,
It has a icy mocha coffee taste. Almost like a milkshake but not as thick and milky. I really just want something to take the place of my mocha or latte in the morning. I don't miss milk at all just miss sipping on something and the great taste in the morning. I just bought a coconut. Maybe I can do something with that.
Thanks,
Cindy

Okay, well, the BEST coffee flavor I know of is brazil nuts, and I am assuming that this is creamy and milky
I make my nut milks very strong, about 1 cup nuts to 2 cups water,
so 1 cup of brazil nut milk
how to make
take 1/2 cup of brazil nuts and do not soak, put into Vita Mix with 1 cup of water, keep this blending and then put through a nut milk bag, you should get about 1 cup of brazil nut milk, nice and thick and creamy
I would add maybe 1 tsp coconut oil to give it that extra creaminess (optional
then add 3 medjool dates, pitted and not soaked
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup raw cacao powder or carob powder
blend until smooth
then add 1/cup of ice cubes (made out of brazil nut milk if you like or water)
blend until frothy,
enjoy.
if you need more chocolate taste add more cacao or carob,if you need more sugar, carmelly taste, add more dates, if you need more coffee taste, then I'm outta' luck here.
good luck with your experimenting.

I make this similar with almond milk all the time, except I add more spices, but it's excellent, and I don't use the carob or cacoa, so if you like milkshakes, give it a whirl,
but I'm gonna' go try the brazil nut one right now.
I'll be back and let you know how it worked.

okay, here is what I did
I took 1/2 cup brazil nuts
1 cup water
blend
strain
yield
1 cup brazil nut milk (yummy)
so I took
1 cup brazil nut milk
3 medjool dates pitted not soaked
1/4 tsp cinnamon
2 T cocoa/carob powder
blend,
then I added 1 cup ice
it was very yummy,
however, I think that it needs more dates for most people
so I would add 1 more date
1 inch vanilla bean (to enhance the sweetness)
and maybe a dash of salt, also enhances sweetness
the cacao does add a very hearty flavor, and the brazil nut milk is very intense, I like it for a heavier drink.
It isn't exactly what you are probably looking for, but I'd sure try it
you can also use only 1 T cacao to start, and keep tasting as you go.
enjoy, and let me know your progress, and experiment experiment experiment, that's what's so much fun with raw foods.

Did anyone try this with Chicory to give it that 'coffe' flavor? Frappuccino is very coffe and very syruppy and very sweet, as that used to be my all time 'Starbucks" fix.
Thanks Rawpriestess for the experiment I'll play with it with the chicory as I bought a few oz. today.
good idea wyjoz! and thanks as well RP I'm going to give this shot.

OOOHHH.....I so miss the real coffee flavor. I guess organic coffee can't be used...roasted huh? I've thought about it just for an occasional drink....I would rather use nut milks. I've never bought brazil nuts before....are they worth the price? REALLY?

Here is Starbucks Frappuccino: 1/2 c espresso NOW THAT'S STRONG STUFF!
2 1/2 c milk
1/4 c sugar
1 T pectin* thickener
Ice Cubes
so using Rawpriestess' recipe"
so I took
1 cup brazil nut milk
3 medjool dates pitted not soaked
1/4 tsp cinnamon
2 T cocoa/carob powder
blend,
then I added 1 cup ice
it was very yummy,
however, I think that it needs more dates for most people
so I would add 1 more date
1 inch vanilla bean (to enhance the sweetness)
and maybe a dash of salt, also enhances sweetness
the cacao does add a very hearty flavor,
ALL THAT'S MISSING IS THE ESPRESSO so I suggested using CHICORY Joz

Usually in the 'herb' section in health food stores; most of the time it's in jars and you take a scoop or as much as you need.

I give the pulp to my dog, who loves it.
I would also say, add more dates, as it wasn't too terrilby sweet, but the Brazil nuts did make it taste more "earthy" than almond milk
I don't know what to add to make it more coffee-ish, chickory maybe, but I'm thinking something like bitter, hummm, walnuts? maybe.
I think I'll try it with walnuts and get back with you.

Here is my first attempt:
Please note that my measurements are approximations as I have a tendency to eyeball things.
1/2 - 3/4 cup of brazil nuts (thanks for the idea RP!)
1 cup cold water
2 tbsp of cocoa nibs
** I then blended until nibs turned powdery in the mixture**
agave to taste (this is for sweetness and agave is quite sweet) I eyeballed it, but am guessing 5 tbsp worth
2 tsp carob powder
1 tsp maca (is health, but not sure it changes the flavour)
1 tsp mesquite powder (adds malty flavour)
salt (three turns on my salt grinder)
a pinch of cayenne pepper
** blend until mixed **
13 cubes of ice (mine is storebought hard ice if you know the size)
** blend until mixed **
Voila!!!
Now I am a frappuccino nut and have been for the last 5 years. This makes a venti sized frappuccino and I was pretty impressed with the result. It was more mocha-ish than a plain coffee frap, but very good. It actually reminded me much more of the frap's from Coffee Republic (if you have tried them) which I prefer.
I do suggest you use the salt and the cayenne as both are in there to bring out the other flavours much more strongly.
I find that agave is a more neutral flavoured sweetener than dates (though I love dates too!)
You could try it by making brazil nut milk first, but I am too lazy to bother with the straining and I didn't find it offputting to have it slightly grainy - it may even add to it as a texture so long as you put in enough ice.
If you have time in between, I suggest cooling the mixed liquid in your refrigerator before blending in the ice at the end. The mixture was pretty warm from the blending and cooling it will make the ice last longer.
Bon appetite

Wow, they all sound good and I will be experimenting for sure!
I make this whenever I get a need for a coffee fix. I usually leave in the Vitamix until warm.
1 cup water
1 ripe fresh or frozen banana
6-8 brazil nuts
shake or two of cinnamon
squirt of Agave (dates may be used)
1 T. raw cacoa nibs or raw carob
I blend all together. Vitamix seems to make pretty smooth, so I don't make the brazil nut milk and strain, but a good step as Rawpriestess does for smoothness.

A long time ago, I made something that tasted like a mocha frap using sprouted sesame seed milk. The brown sprouted sesame seeds were a bit bitter, so it worked perfectly as "coffee". I think I blended it with carob and mesquite powder, and lots of agave. Try it out! =)

Why don't you soak Brazil nuts ?

CAdreamer, because you don't NEED to soak brazil nuts, they don't have much enzyme inhibitors, so no need to soak.

I finally replenished my supply of brazil nuts and whipped this up with one slight modification: I added 2 oz of brewed teccino (my Saturday treat). This is ABSOLUTELY YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who needs Starbuck's (or any other SAD food for that matter)? We've got all these brilliant minds (Alissa, Rawkinlocks, SG, RP, Miss Linda, RT, etc.) recreating palate pleasures and allowing us to spend our $ on goodies that are actually good for us...

I know this is an old thread, but I dug it up, looking for an iced-coffee-chocolate fix!! Here's my version....I had to do some substitutions because I am out of honey, and don't have agave.....
After I made the brazil nut mylk (3/4 cup of nuts:1 cup water..strained)
Add that back to my blender and then I added:
about a handful (1/3 cup maybe) of raisins
2 TBS maple syrup (I know some don't use this, but it's all I had to substitute the sweetness dates)
4 TBS carob
dash of cinnamon
dash of salt
dash of chili powder (I didn't have PLAIN cayenne)
I blended all that well, and then added about a cup of crushed ice to the blender and blended it some more! It's creamy smooth, and just goes to show you, sometimes you just use what you've got! It doesn't have to be straight from the "recipe" :D

Thanks for that link. I checked it out and saw they list the ingredients:
Almond Amaretto Herbal Coffee
Ingredients: Roasted carob, barley, chicory root, figs, almonds, dates, & natural Amaretto flavor.
I think one could probably make a raw version from that.
Scroll down the page a bit, click on the flavor of your choice and peek at the ingredients:

Just wanted to say also that about a year ago or so I bought some nuts ......I think they were called ramone nuts??? And they were VERY coffee flavored....VERY. But I can't find them on line anymore. The brazil nut does have a sort of mocha flavor and I think hazelnuts too.
I'm off to find me some chicory.

Yeah, I say "go for it" now THAT would be gooooodddd, coffee extract? hummmm
maybe I will have to go to the store some day. LOL
My bf keeps me away, because I just stand in the aisles pointing and laughing at the chartreuse green pudding in plastic containers for $3.00 and can't stop, I also go up and down the aisles, and stare at all the shampoos, and pain relievers and ant acids, and say, WHY? WHY?
anyway he does the shopping for me, because it is such a culture shock for me.

If youre craving a mocha frap, or a mocha chino, try this!
1/2 cup sesame seeds
2 cups coconut milk
1/2 cup coconut meat
1 Tablespoon honey
1 Tablespoon carob powder

In a blender or Vita-Mix, blend until smooth.

Slap me if I'm being cheeky here, I'm not trying to be, but coffee extract is made from coffee and hot water so what's the difference betweeen this and an espresso shot? (less caffeine than drip coffee)
See?

It's all a personal choice of course but I just wanted y'all to be informed. btw...I LURVE coffee. Gave it up 2 weeks ago...migraine city.
How do you extract juice from a coffee bean?
We start with the finest organic, premium grade 100% Arabica coffee beans. We fresh roast the coffee beans and immediately extract the pure coffee liquor. Java Juice is then individually packaged in special barrier film that seals in the full flavor and aroma of the coffee for up to six months. We source the beans from only the finest harvests; then roast them to perfection at our certified organic coffee roastery. Then, a patented process extracts a concentrated liquid from the roasted beans, retaining all of the aroma and body of fresh brewed coffee.
