Hi everyone,

I found this board a week ago and have been spending at least 5 hours/day reading the posts here. I've always been health-conscious, but I never knew about raw diets until recently. I really believe in the theory behind eating raw food. Since discovering this board, I have started eating 70% raw. I already bought many raw books, and I'm waiting eagerly for the popular 'Alissa's DVD and book'. My biggest challenge will be finding support, since everyone around me eats cooked. I hope I will be able to make some raw friends, here and in the Bay Area.

Wish you all a great weekend!

Linda

Hi Linda! Sigh, if only my family hadn't moved to Sacramento last year- I had previously spent all of my life in the Bay Area! BUT, I do believe my Grandpa lives in San Mateo (it's either that or San Carlos.... ). I must say I'm a little disappointed with the raw community in the Bay Area, or should I say the lack there of. Sure, there's got to be a lot in San Fran, but that is quite a ways up. But keep in there! :D

Welcome to the friendliest raw food support forum online!!

I just literally got home 10 minutes ago from a workshop given by Matthew and Terces Engelhart, the owners of the three Cafe Gratitudes in the Bay Area (and, more importantly, creators of Abounding River).

Also, I returned several days ago from a week in the Bay Area, during which time I ate at Gratitude Berkeley twice. There is a thriving raw community up there!!! I bet if you contacted Gary Chase in Sacramento (I know it's not close to you, but he has great ideas and contacts) and went into talk to the Engelharts (or took one of their workshops up there), you'd come away with a wealth of ways to plug into ... or create ... a support network up there.

Anyway, in the meantime, we're here for you!!

What an exciting path you've chosen. Welcome again.

I live in Emeryville. I have been fortunate to find a good amount of raw support here in the East Bay. And this forum is invaluable. I really have learned alot. Enjoy your journey!

linda,

Hi. I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota but I do have an aunt who lives in Marin County. She lives right at the entrance to Muir Beach near Mill Valley. I wish I could go visit. There has got to be a lot of people raw in San Francisco. I wish you the best.

The Bay Area is a great place for raw! When I first started eating raw about a year ago I too knew no one who ate this way except for in cyber space. ibid this board. Since then many people around me are eating this way to varying degrees. Some of them blame me for thier change in eating but I know I am just the messenger because many others around me continue to eat junk and tell me how great I look. Now I have a network of people who eat this way. I'm sure that if you eat raw, do the challenge and utilize the support of this blessed board "they will come" meaning real world raw food buddies. Many blessings to you and yours.

Thank you all, for the lovely welcome. Believe it or not, I feel like I know many of you already because I've read at least 50% of the posts here in the last 1 week. This site is very addictive, and I find myself clicking on 'New Posts' button almost every few hours. I already compiled most of the food photos and the most popular recipes on this site. This forum is very well-organized and very user-friendly. Thanks to Alissa for starting this forum and to the Moderators for maintaining it.

Raw Truth, thank you for the info. I will definitely try to cntact some raw groups here in the Bay Area.

Wish everyone a wonderful day!

Hi Minnie, sorry that I didn't see your post until now. I live in San Mateo, so I'm a bit far from you. But I'm very interested in the Palo Alto potluck. Let's go! There's also a San Mateo potluck on the last Saturday of every month. I"m planning to go to that one. Do you want to go?

Welcome! I just found this board recently too. We split our time between Berkeley and Humboldt County. There are some great raw restaurants in San Francisco and Berkeley. I love Cafe Gratitude. I've only been to one potluck a couple of years ago and it wasn't that exciting (mostly mono food and most people brought cash donations instead of food, so there wasn't much to go around). But with all the extra movement in raw foods lately, I bet the potlucks would be more exciting now. There are also some great raw foods at the farmer's markets. Check out the Berkeley farmer's markets on Saturday mornings - they have a stall with vegan sushi that also offers raw foods (raw soup, raw shakes/drinks, including a durian one, and raw sushi wrapped in collard leaves with beets, nut pastes, etc.), as well as Lydia's, which has raw crackers, pizza and drinks.

Wow, Linda! You have many more people on this forum near you and boy, do you live in one of the best places to meet people and enjoy this life style! I am so happy for you!

I am hoping that my area, in time, will have more of what you are finding. We do have a Whole Foods in Pittsburgh and am sure that the communities surrounding the universities down there are more health conscious than what I am finding up in the country where I live.

Anyrate, a big welcome from another "seedling" and an ole time friend! Hugs to you! Tracey

Hey Linda--I'm new here too! My husband and I live in Davis. I think we're in a pretty awesome part of the country for year round fresh produce. Good luck on your journey!

Hi Linda,

Sorry it's taken so long to see your post too. I hope to see you at the pot luck in Palo Alto. I can't go to the San Mateo the end of this month but maybe in May? Email me and let's chat. :D
