Does anyone have any suggestions for fasting if one gets low blood sugar from fruit? (hypoglycemia) I have never been able to eat fruit/fruit juice solo because of this. I have read many accounts of raw curing hypoglycemia, but in my case it hasn't.
I would really like to do a cleanse (the MC specifically), but I don't know if I could physically do it. If anyone has experienced this - please help! :o

I have the same problem. That's why I can't do the Master Cleanse. The acidity of the lemon juice and the sugar in the maple syrup makes me feel ill within hours into the fast. I have never lasted longer than a day on the Master Cleanse. You would think the MC would be easier to do than a water fast. Not for me. Last time I did a water fast, I lasted almost 5 days. I didn't really enjoy the experience, nor am I planning on doing another water fast soon. I brought it up just to make a point that a combination of acidic juice and sugar wreaks havoc in some people.

I do much better on a fruit-veggie juice fast, however. I was able to stay on the fast for 7 days last time I tried it. That's quite a big thing for me as I never thought I would be able to last longer than 3 days.

The key, for me, is the 3:1 veggie and fruit juice ratio (3 parts veggie juice and 1 part fruit juice). Parsley, cucumber, and celery juices help "dilute" the sugary/acidic taste of fruit juice. Your mileage may vary, but this works wonderfully for me.

I have been healed of my reactive hypoglycemia since going raw and I can have a full whole fruit day ! :D

BUT I cannot do fruit juice day (need the fiber in the fruit) or the MC. The MC book even deals with this issue. It does state as Hypoglycemic you may need to adjust the MC.

I would think you could get benefit from a green drink fast.

If you did chose the MC you would want to add spirulina to your diet, several times a day.

I also have the same problem. Right now I'm not eating any fruit because of this but will add some back in after awhile. I was instructed my a dietitian friend, who's also raw, that I shouldn't eat but one or two pieces of fruit a day because of this and because I'm also dealing with fibromyalgia. Which is really sad because I LOVE fruit and was eating a lot of it while still raw but my body wasn't responding well to it at all. Once off of it, I feel much better.

I was that senstive to MC too over a yr ago b/c of blood sugar sensitivities........I thought I was going to "DIE" after five hours of MC. My naturpath told me to stop until I leveled and was strengthend to handle such a potent cleanse...... then I couldn't even handle doing fruit juice fasting  some suggestions.......

Try juicing on meal with more greens

stay aways form carrot, beet and concentrated fruits. I find that apple is the most friendly in terms of blood sugar mixed with greens.

Continues eating as much raw and make sure your BM's are consitent and gradualy increase juicing.

staying raw will give your pancreas a break and time to heal. Work [towards] fasting rather than go [into] fasting mode. Better to strengthen than shock your body and become more sensitive.

Best to you and always,
:)

Look to the types of fruit you eat, as misslinda states.

Many fruits are very low on the Glycemic Index and have less blood sugar response than many other foods being eaten. Generally if you stick with low GI fruits you may fare better.

So look at these fruits: grapefruit, lemon, limes, pears, apples and Berries.

rawfigure, why do you recommend spirulina?
I was thinking of ordering one of the supergreens from NFL, but am undecided. Do you take spirulina, and why?
I read that chlorella, I believe, was better than any of the others, based on a personal experimentation. I have no idea. What do you think of them? So many views on them, and a lot of them stating they are virtually useless.

Thanks.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. They have been SO helpful!
I was hoping that RAW would help this problem, but it hasn't yet! I did notice that when I drink green smoothies (with just fruit and greens) that I don't have a problem, but when I juice just fruit or drink a fruit smoothie I am shaky and sick within 1-2 hours.
Rawfigure, that is a good idea about a green drink fast. I could probably handle green drinks as I can green smoothies I have juiced apple/parsley/spinach and didn't notice any problems (probably close to the 3:1 ratio you were talking about Abigail). I will reference the glycemic index and try different combinations.
Misslinda - thanks for the suggestion work into fasting. It is probably a much wiser decision for me to do that.
Abigail, I have also fasted for 1 day with just water with no problems. I would not do this kind of fast for very long either. I think I will work toward a green drink fast - which fruit/veggie combo did you use, and which combo gave you the most energy?

Spirulina is 65 to 71 percent complete protein, with all essential amino acids in perfect balance.

here is more.....http://www.naturalways.com/spirulina.htm

Chlorella is my second choice. I use both daily.

rawcanadagirl,

Here are some of my favorite combos:
1. cucumber+celery+apple+carrot+parsley
2. pear (very ripe and semi-ugly)+celery+beet+beet tops+apple+orange
3. collard greens+cucumber+apple+honeydew melon

Most people with blood sugar problems do well with acidic fruits like grapefruits, lemon, orange, etc. When eaten by themselves, these fruits tend to cause problems for me.

Cucumber and celery are my best friends. They're mild and bring a nice alkaline balance to the sweetness and tartness of the fruit juices.
