Hello all. In the past, I would buy sprouts from asda and they would be packaged in a net, and be of ‘average’ size.

But recently, they have stopped selling those and instead sell 500g of “Trimmed” sprouts wrapped in cellophane. These sprouts seem to be decidedly larger than the previous, untrimmed ones.

Is it just a case of Asda picking the bigger sprouts, or is there something more sinister going on? next time I buy some I will look for the ‘GM-FREE’ logo…

What kind of sprouts are you talking about? Mung beans? Alfalfa? Sunflower? Each has a different growing method, so it's hard to tell from afar.

Ahhh, that's a whole different matter. Brussels sprouts on the stalk are mostly a luxury gourmet item here stateside, and for everyday use are either loose binned for purchase by weight, or packed in little tubs with a cello top, and sold by the container. I've never seen them in a net bag.

But here's a thought... the smaller ones (they come naturally in many sizes on a given stalk, from marbles to golf balls) are the most tender, and are also the most in demand for packaged foods. So big processors sort them by size, and sell them accordingly, with the largest sizes being the cheapest price by weight. So I'll guess... and it's just a guess... that's what Asda's switch is about. You're getting the bigger, cheaper ones now.
