Lisa

with the juicer i have, this is how i do it:

-orange: peel
-grapefruit: peel
-lemon/lime: peel
-pineapple: good lordy please peel :p
-mango: peel
-apple: wash thoroughly thoroughly thoroughly (if not organic) and juice whole thing
-pear: same as apple

hmm..i began to mimick your list before i realized i could just say the following: i guess all things i peel to eat i peel before juicing. everything else, i don't. i did attempt to juice oranges before without peeling because if heard people make comments about nutrients in the peel (outer skin? ) .. boy was that untasty and bitter :p

just what i do though

The white pithy part of all citrus fruits is bitter, so I press those fruits for juice rather than running them through a juicer. It's quite noticeably sweeter that way.

All tropical fruits get peeled, or the peel cut off, organic or not. Sorry, sanitation standards in third world countries just don't cut it for me. And mango peels can cause "poison ivy" rashes.

And pineapple rind is very tough and fibrous so I cut it all off, though a few brown spots don't bother me. But the core goes in. No reason to waste that.

All domestic orchard fruit like apples and pears I just wash and remove the stems (and increasingly, the stickers). Stone fruits like peaches and apricots and plums I wash, remove the pit and stem, then juice.

I rarely juice berries, but when I do, no, I don't peel them :)

Melons, I only juice the ripe flesh, not the rind.

I read in the Juiceman Book that the oils in the skin of citrus juice can cause gasto upset if juiced, so I always peel anything citrus, and leave on a good bit of the white part, I read (somewhere) the white helps the body absorb nutrients better.

I read somewhere too, that the skin of the oranges family contains a lot of nutrients too. So sometimes I will eat a bit of the skin when I eat an orange. I do not mind it so much especially if its a tangerine.

I understand that the only citrus fruit that you should not eat the skin of is grapefruit. All others have a lot to offer.
I juice lemmon in the morning and add it to a pint of warm water to start my day. It clears the muccous from the digestive tract and allows better absorbtion of nutrients. I then add the remaining bits of the lemmon (skin and seeds) to my green smoothie.
When juicing (I have a twin gear) I think that by leaving the skins on, I seem to get less juice. It almost seems to me as if the pulp absorbs some of the juice and hangs on to it. For this reason I do not juice the skin but this could just be in my own head.
If I need to juice a lemmon in this way and it is organic, I grate the rind off first and add it to cashue and chopped apple to make a nice salad.

Just an update, since this detail dropped out earlier. Mangos should be thoroughly washed first, then peeled. Mango is a member of the poison ivy family and the skin can cause blisters, rashes, etc.

do you juice the seeds of a grapefuit??

Can you put the seeds of the grapefruit in a vitamix to make juice or a smoothie or should you pick those out first?

Are you going to strain the juice before drinking it? If so, leave the seeds in... the slight traces of grapefruit seed oil you get are very beneficial to fighting off cancer, and other things.

But if you aren't going to strain the juice, I suggest removing the seeds, because when ground up they make the juice gritty.
