Is honey just as bad for a person as refined white sugar?

Hi Lisa42,
I don't believe honey goes into the category of sugar, not in the way most people think of it. We use raw honey all the time. Some raw people don't...it is up to you!
Warmly,
Pansy ;)

naw. raw honey is natural. refined sugar isn't. not everyone uses raw honey on this board though because it isn't vegan. a great alternative is agave.

Honey isn't bad for you.
I use raw agave nectar for two reasons.
1) hubby is allergic to honey and I don't want to give him hives.
2) we're vegan, and technically speaking vegans are supposed to refrain from ALL animal products, by-products etc.

Well I decided I am done with the haystack routine. I think all that sugar makes me depressed the next morning and part of the afternoon, plus I feel bloated. I went out and just bought a jug of honey - Pure Clover Honey 100% Natural. But I don't see anything on here that says raw. Is this different from raw honey, or is it somehow processed? I was going to find some recipes using honey as a sweetener - and eat more fresh fruit.

That is heated honey! No enzymes left and half the nutrtional benefits destroyed. Raw honey clearly says so on the label, either raw or unheated. I have found the best place to get it is local beekeepers and Farners Markets.

So then the raw honey is unpasteurized? I guess its OK to eat it that way - you seem to be fine. (Ha Ha) I know where I can get the raw honey now, I'm taking this back. Is the raw honey just as sweet? (I'm still looking for a way to get my sweets.) Just had a piece of an apple - God's food is wonderful.

yes, i agree w sweetgoddess on the amazing nectar quality - but it is super high glycemic index - not good for sugar sensitive people, imo. stevia best sweetener if you want low glycemic index

Yes, Raw honey is just as sweet. It is very tasty, also I have been told that it is one of the highest enzyme content foods around. Some people use agave in recipes because honey has a very distinct flavour.

honey will not react in the body the same way as processed sugar.
sugar is really not good for the body at all,
if you choose to eat honey, it is exceptionally great for the body, inside and out,
I use honey to wash my body, face and hair with, it is magickal.
