View Full Version : Help - I'm Addicted To Sugar

Hi everyone - I'm new here, first time. Everyday for several years I have been drinking 6-8 oz. of green juice from my juicer (dark green leafies) I love it. Power walk every AM, lift weights, etc. Not hungry much during the day, a few snacks after my juice, I love dates (the dried fruit), but after that, especially at night - IT'S SUGAR TIME. I'm currently hooked on coconut haystacks - just read the bag: 180 grams of sugar/1500 calories per bag. I eat probably a bag and a half. I'm thinking, maybe if I juice another glass at night, but not the green again, I wouldn't want the candy. This cannot be good for me.
Any ideas on what juice kills sugar cravings? Weight is not an issue, I may even be a little under.

I believe I have read that green juice does help kill the cravings for all foods. It couldn't hurt to have another in the evening.
Try using one of the raw vegan sugar subtitutes:
raw honey, raw agave.
Take some raw coconut flakes. (Alissa sells them)
Take some raw agave. (Alissa sells it)
Blend it together and eat it or throw it in the dehydrator.
Yummy.
Then you can still have your treat.
I would do the evening green juice also though.

You might try juicing more greens in the evening, or drinking sesame milk. Victoria Boutenko says that sweets cravings are a result of a calcium deficiency, so both the sesame milk & greens juice would help that.
Also for me personally, the last thing I would do if I was having sugar issues is eat dates, dried fruit, etc. It won't satisfy you, but rather just leaving you wanting more.
Are you currently 100% raw? If you aren't, I would recommend jumping in, or at the very least giving up all white sugar, grains, and refined flour for the next 30 days and see what happens to your cravings.
I have battled with the sugar issue, and I don't know that there is one answer...every body is different. Good luck :)

Your body needs sugar in the form of fruit. It fuels your body and your mind. Fruit will satisfy your sweet tooth. There should be no reason a raw fooder avoids fruit which is a natural whole fresh raw food. The shapes and colors delights the eyes, satisfies hunger and provides plenty of energy.
Probably the reason why you are eating the coco haystacks is the high fat content, which is filling you up more quickly. Fat is dense & high in calories and it takes less to satiate than fruit, but the nutrients aren't nearly as optimal to the body as those in fresh fruit.

Hi there,
I got some great responses to a similar thread I started - see link below. If the link does not work then put the words "sugar binging' into the search function (the banana above) and see my thread how to stop sugar binging - being 100% is certainly helping along with some other great ideas in that thread.

I was also a sugar addict and have been RAW for 28 days now. I eat a lot of fruit and found by day 3 I was totally fine without any processed sugar (chocolate for me). I went on eating almost all fruit and nuts for 3 weeks and in this last week found myself naturally wanting to add more savory foods into my diet. My sweet tooth seems to be lessening even more.
