Okay,
So when i am nursing, what do i need?
If you could give me a sample run through for one day - that would be great!
If feel like i am constantly buying avocados/bananas! We are poor, so i can tell you - its getting really frustrating, because $300 / mo. in food stamps just doesn't cut it.
So i need suggestions that are simple, low cost, but that get me all the nutrients/calories that i need.
**i don't presently have a blender, food processor, or dehydrator.
** I DO have a juicer.
Thank you!

* local (sweet) fruit in season
(These will be cheaper. Apples, pears, for example? Are there any wholesale markets around where you live? Are oranges/tangerines expensive in your area? They make a great breakfast. Some raw foodists almost live on orange juice!)
* salads
(They are very filling, and there are so many options! This is what I often do: chop up one whole lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, squeeze one orange, pour 1-2 T tahini, and mix.)
I wish you could have as many bananas and avocados as you want.

Yeah, that sounds like exactly what i eat. I guess it just seems like i dont get much of a variety that way. Did you say that lots of people practically live off oranges? Is that okay?even when nursing?
I could do that!
Is there a connection between oranges being i season at the beginning of spring and them also being detoxifying? (spring being prime time for detoxing, "spring cleaning"?)
I have actually been curious about that for some time...
thanks

I would encourage you to get some sesame seeds --they are CHEAP!!- and get-or use someone else's blender to make milk, also carrots :?
before I fully embraced "raw", I would juice carrots and use the pulp for *carrot supreme*, just basically the pulp mixed with some seasonings, onions, celery-maybe some dulse for a "tuna"-like taste.
aroulnd here, when I need something in a pinch-I get a tomato and an avocado; wrap it in a lettuce leaf, sprinkle some cumin and shoyu and ENJOY!
oh, besides sesame-walnuts and cashews are failry inexpensive and nutritious.
I get food stamps, too-but only 400 for a family of 5!!!
what I have realized within the past month is--hubby gets NO easy cooked foods, like packaged meals, cookies, chips(ok, occasionally chips). that has also made it easier for my children, they only eat what I offer or what is available and I only offer RAW GOODNESS!

I second the suggestion about sesame seeds, they have calcium and protein and don't cost a lot.
Sunflower seeds are inexpensive too, and good for pates.
Is there a CSA (community-supported agriculture) farm near you? These are small, local farms which are usually organic, you buy a share for the season (usually $400-$500) from June through October and you get a nice amount of fresh fruits and vegetables each week. Most farms will make an arrangment with you and charge you MUCH LESS if you agree to work a few hours a month or more in the fields. My son and I belong to one and we LOVE going there and working our shift, planting stuff, harvesting stuff, it's healthy and fun and kids usually enjoy it. CSAs are located all over the country, perhaps there's one near you. This link can help you find one:

Veganfamily,
Storm (but he is a male, so no connection to nursing here) drinks a lot of orange juice. In winter, when there is not so much variety of fruit, I tend to eat lots of oranges, tangerines, tangelos. I find them quite filling (I have them mono). When I was pregnant, even though I was not raw, all I wanted to eat was tangerines and some nuts. I mentioned oranges, because they may be cheaper than some other fruit. But I believe that any sweet juicy fruit that you can afford is just fine! Eat what you love, I say.
I never heard about such connection, it's interesting. I think that all juicy fruit is detoxyfying faster than other foods. Watermelon, for example, is great too.
There is board for raw families with babies, you might find it useful:

I remember once reading there a story by a nursing mum who after increasing her intake of fruit, experienced the desired increase in her milk supply.

I wrote about this very thing on this board. It was so funny to have my milk supply increase to what it was when my daughter was a few months old (she's now 2 yrs).
