Hi. I'm trying to drink my greens everyday (Kale and Chard combo) and I'm wondering if people are filtering out the fiber of these vegetables before they drink it. In other words, pour into the glass only the liquid and not the "body" of the vegetables.. Am I getting all the nutrients I need by doing this?

Hey you,
Def of Smoothies are with the fiber. Def of Juices are without. Fiber has many beneficial benefits--not just bowels. :)

I can't remember why, but my understanding is that you need the fibre too. So green smoothies are better than just juicing.

I use a vitamix so wether green or not I drink the body or pulp of all veggies. Taste fine, sometimes I have to add more water to thin just in case I made it to thick.

Fiber helps to soak up acidity from the body and also creates healthy terrain for the stomach where good bacteria relies upon. Vitamin b12 thrive son healthy gut as well.
trying to look for the site I read this on---if I find it I will post

i hear you misslinda.. it's just so hard to drink a smoothie with all the pulp.. i guess i'll just have to put less leaves in the blender..

lol, i thought you had a vita mix blender--comes out smooth in like 20 seconds! ;)
If it's too thick, make sure you're adding water. I'll use a couple handfulls of greens, and maybe four pieces of fruit (apples, oranges, bananas, or equivilant of strawberries, blueberries, stuff like that), and to that I'll add 2-3 cups of water.
Also, make sure you vary your greens. Victoria Boutenko found out that it's not healthy to always consume the same greens. So alternate with dark green lettuces, spinach, dandelion greens, whatever else you can find.

The Health movement, is exactly that, a movement, so as people learn and grow, their knowledge of what works in the body grows too.
The juice of the fruit/veggie is excellent, because it starts to absorb into the body in the mouth, when it mixes with saliva (hense chew your juice) it starts to break down immediately and becomes truly a miracle food in the body.
especially helpful for people who are ill
water fasting is number 1
juice fasting is number 2
then smoothies would come in to play for people who wish to heal also
smoothies are excellent as they are already masticated much like chewing with your teeth would do, however you still need to mix with your saliva
the green smoothies that are so popular now, are indeed supposed to be truly miraculous in healing the body.
I personally like to eat my food not drink it, but that is just me.
I think people need to do what ever works for them.

I wouldn't think this would matter so much on a raw food diet, since we get our fiber in nearly everything we eat throughout the day. If you don't get your fiber in your morning juice, you will get it in your salad during dinner, etc.
