I have fallen in love with psyllium, but I want to check it out before I have too much. What are your experiences with psyllium? positive? negative? How much is too much daily? Can it undermine my raw efforts (healph, weightloss, nutrient absorbtion)? Can you become dependent on it? Thanks. :)

are you taking it while fasting? or is it b/c you have bm stagnancy?

From what I have researched via web, can be become dependent and have choking effect on those with uuper respiratory issues or children.

It doesn't have any lubricant kind of quality so i'd imagine a herb of somekind would be helpful with it to lubricate the dryness/bulkiness of it.

I have not used it in over 10 years and at that time, I didn't care for it.

You definitely have to drink enough water because psyllium is very bulky. It can therefore cause constipation (rather than relieve it) if you do not drink enough water with it. It is literally fiber... I'm not sure if you can become dependant on it, but you should probably use it in moderation just like everything else.

I'm not taking it for any medicinal purpose, but I made the psyllium pudding in Eating Without Heating. It's very good.

just curious, for what purpose?....not that you can't but fresh fruits and veggies are loaded with fiber

i've been taking it for a while and appreciate the bulk.. my primary hope is that it's improving my regularity, and I think it is. Even being all raw for almost 2 months I don't seem to maintain as much regularity as I'd like, but the psyllium has defintely seemed to bump it up a notch.. If I weren't losing weight and probably dumping a ton of toxins, I wouldn't care as much.. Hopefully the psyllium is also picking up some of those toxins on the way out ;)

Have you tried ground flax seed instead? It has many benefits other than just fiber? ;)

thats a good idea.. does one need to purchase a grinder and just grind flax, or does it come ground?

flax seed would be better.. as it has a slippery stuff that is better for the system then psyllium.. I get constipated on just a half a sppon of this stuff.. When I saw this as ingredient for puddings and pies I almost died... seems to me it should not be something used on a regular basis...

Do some people use psyllium husk during a fast?
