Here's the scoop: David's "Sunfood Diet Sucess" 2006 came out recently, and I wondered if anyone has read it yet??? How does it compare to his first one...better or worse? I hear that he is now saying that 100% raw vegan is not for everyone, and he is promoting 80%. Is this right? What does everyone think about this??? I was gonna buy it, but I thought I might just get everyone's imput on it first.

When is Alissa's New Book coming out?? How will it be different? Does anyone know??

I did like the first one, I found it inspiring. Unfortunately, I imagine this new edition will have a heavy emphasis on all of the supplements ("superfoods") he sells on his site.

I temporarily subscribed to his site, thebestdayever.com. I cancelled my subscription after one month, finding it very disappointing. My expectation was to get a lot of information about raw FOOD, instead, all the downloads talked about were expensive supplements.

Just to clarify, I have NOT read the new edition. If someone has read it and I am totally wrong, I hope you'll correct me. I also HOPE I'm wrong!

he has been pushing a lot of supplements lately... but you have to make a living I guess, and I do agree with him that there are SOME extra supplements that we should take, considering the fact that our produce definitely is not as substantial as it should be now-a-days. I do notice an energy different when I take my vitamineral greens (gotta love it!)...

but ya I thought his website was www.rawfood.com ???

I have been a member at thebestdayever.com for 6 months and I have love the audio downloadst. There are countless interviews monthly, and they keep adding more and more. In fact Alissa is to be interviewed at some point, or so it said at one piont. Len Foleys interviews are so inspiring.

I do not find that they push supplements, just give information. It is my choice what I do with it. The board is small and limited but I have gotten good response to questions there. They have various guru's there to answer questions. Jennifer Hnat the anti aging queen has an anti aging section and she is simply terrific in her posting answers.

OK so I am a fan.....

I'm ordering the new edition. I'm really curious what his positions will be about raw foods as the whole movement has evolved, and so much more information has become available.. I'll post a review when I'm done with it :)

and David Wolf is on the forefront of the raw food movement. You all my or may not be a fan but he is cutting edge and we all benefit from his passion and research. He is big into research and experimentation which I find interesting.

But anyone who "knows me" knows I am an information buff.

I totally agree with you on that rawfigure... I just wanted to see how this book compared with his first one... I plan on ordering this one also, but I just hear that it is not as 100% advocating as the first one. I didn't know if this was true or not. Do you know? Does he talk about this at all on bestdayever?? I have heard a few of his lectures online and I thought they were truly inspiring...haven't eaten seedless fruit since then
:D :p

David Wolfe is 100%, recommends 100%, but makes allowances that not everyone wants to be there. For an average person that doesn't plan to go raw, going high raw is great. His message is still strong, with lots about wild food, greens and constant education. I enjoy it greatly and will definitely pick up the new book.

Cheers,
Sheryl

Well, consensus is in... I just ordered it. I couldn't resist. I have been waiting all night. I figured since I usually am in awe of most of what he has to say that I would be appreciative of this just as much... I will let everyone know what I think!

RawTruth

I saw him last night and talked to him a bit at the local raw restaurant. If I'd known, I would have asked him about the new edition. Sheryl's right, though, as far as his basic message. And -- he is completely raw himself.

I am absolutely not into criticizing or bashing so that you know where I'm coming from -- but I'm not sure about the cutting edge stuff. For me, when someone is touting a product in which they have no financial interest, then that says more about both their validity and that particular item.

But that's just me -- and I don't currently feel that supplements and superfoods are necessary for optimum health. Fresh ripe organic fruits and vegetables grown in rich soil and some seeds and nuts are the foods that seem the most super. Again -- my opinion, my belief, my reality based on my own research and Alissa's training.

Anyone who maintains the best health ever on supplements, that's cool, too. Whatever works for you.

Be sure to share any important changes you might find in that new edition!!

As I mentioned in another thread a couple of days ago, I've ordered this new edition, too, so I'll post my thoughts on it when I've had a chance to sit down and read it.

I hope those of you who buy it enjoy it (I hope I do!)

I read somewhere online that when asked recently what he ate, David Wolfe said his main food was cocoa beans. This does not seem good to me, or even raw, in my opinion.

I tend to take these things with a grain of salt. Think of what one might do or say on a book promotion tour, for example. And, also, things get distorted when told by other people.

LOL!! I saw and talked to him the other night at a local raw restaurant, and, believe me, he was enjoying the full spectrum of raw dishes -- with no cacao beans in sight!! LOL

I too just purchased his new book; it should arrive on Monday. Our household also uses the vitamineral greens, we purchase it off of a different website that sells the newer version (finer powder) for cheaper.

Virginia~ cocoa beans are raw, they are a plant afterall, plants don't roast themselves. As with all things in the raw lifestyle, you just have to make sure that what you are eating is truely raw. Cocoa is very high in minerals and other nutrients. I have tried the raw cocoa nibs and find them to be an add on to the raw diet.

I'm excited to read this version of the book; book report soon to come.

That statement is a little misleading. He does say that 100% raw vegan
might not be for everyone but he does not "promote" 80% raw. He
promotes 100% raw. The book is written for people transitioning from
cooked food. He says to try 70% raw, then 80% raw, 90% raw and then
100%. He is 100% raw.

Just to clarify, I'm not criticizing David Wolfe, I think that the raw movement simply wouldn't be where it is today without him. I respect him and even order food off of his site. My point was that his teachings seem to have moved from mostly whole food nutrition (Nature's First Law and Eating for Beauty) to mostly supplements and super foods (thebestdayever.com). Additionally, I have no doubt that he eats abundant raw food, I mean, he is a raw foodist.

I do understand he is running a huge business and wants to make money, but I think there is more authenticity in what Alissa is doing: teaching people to cook and eat raw FOOD, selling food and appliances primarily and making a network of raw educators to spread the message.

In response to Alissa being on the bestdayever, I just think that is awesome. I saw her "coming soon" picture on the site and think she will offer a great addition as someone who still actually talks about food.

Vandy
03-25-2006, 06:38 PM
So what is the difference between www.rawfood.com (Nature's First Law) and www.thebestdayever.com... does the bestdayever just sell audio and files and stuff like that??

Misslinda~ I am sooo with you on the "David is a Cutie" though... there is just something about a guy who is a raw foodie that makes him sooo attractive!! (wink wink for all the guys!!! ;)

Vandy,

Yeah. It's a seperate subsciption only site where you pay $30 a month to download audio interviews and participate in their boards.

So what is the difference between www.rawfood.com (Nature's First Law) and www.thebestdayever.com... does the bestdayever just sell audio and files and stuff like that??
.........

Rawfood.com sells items and books ans such and individual audio if you want that. But thebestdayever.com charges only $29.95 a month for the opportunity to listen to all of the audios at your own leisure with no extra charges. You can download them to you pc.. there are also articles and other information. Plus a forum to speak with others specifically about subjects related to the audios, to read David's journal, ask questions of David, the Jubbs, Dr. Cousins, and many others.. In which get answered in the interviews. :D

I was so sad to have to leave that site. I miss the people there and the knowledge I got from that site..

Yes, he talks alot about the supplements etc.. but ya know.. someday we might need to be eating off the land.. someday there may be a time where we as humans need the information he gives.. Natural supplements and super foods could be something we will need in the future at the rate this world is going. Learning how to feed yourself on minimal foods or super foods to me is very exciting. :) things that can be stored for long periods of time, foods to eat out of the ocean. I love the site.

Put him down for wanting to sell foods.. and yes they are pricey and at the moment he makes money from them. But he also give us all this useful info, probably uses that money to help go to places far away to learn more to teach us.. and I am sure uses it to travel the come to us to teach us. If I could only retain as much as he teaches.... heavy sigh... :o

He is to be in Denton the first of April and I had to lose my job and can not afford to pay to go see him. he will be talking of alchemy.. think that is how to spell that. Which was something I so wanted to hear about.. pout... :(

I also wanted to get my book signed.....

Miss Linda, I think David Wolfe is a hottie too! Actually just by his pictures on the web and his books I didn't think much, but IN PERSON he has much
magnetism and I was like WOW he is hot-my friend thought the same thing too. Yes, I had my booked signed by him (Eating For Beauty)

I think we have to be careful critisizing anyone for wanting to turn the rawfood movement into a money making venture...ther are those on this very site who are purists and want to spread the word..as I believe David is, .and are making money at it..there are countless individuals selling books about raw, Cookbooks, website stores selling products, teaching classes...and so on. They do it for the love of the raw life and want to make it there livelyhood. Nothing wrong with that. Yes you will get those who are trying to cash in and do not even really beleive in it. That happens elsewhere too.
We live in a Barter Society and that will not change.

I would feel guilty about going off topic, here, but for FOUR reasons!:

1) I did provide an appropriate response earlier

2) Others have already subverted the thread and made it into a Wolfe Stalkers bulletin board (kidding!) ;)

3) I'm bringing the thread at least back to the subject of consumable items, rather than Mr Wolfe (now don't go getting any ideas, ladies!)

4) I did try to use the Private Message function but I seem to be locked out of it...

Really? I consider that a great pity - it is very sad that anyone would consider it necessary to treat members in this manner - really, it implies a great deal of insecurity or distrust, or both, on the part of whoever felt compelled to do it. Certainly, bandwidth cannot be the issue, since the bandwidth or storage required for PMs is negligible. Impeding freedom of speech is never a good thing amongst sincere individuals. I'm really quite disgusted at this and I hope whoever has removed the PM function (even if it is Alissa herself) can tell me why this was done. I'm a member of a great many boards, on a broad range of topics, and have never seen this approach taken by a moderator, even when sensitive or controversial things have been discussed therein. That this should have been done on this board says far more about whoever did it than it does about the reason for doing so, whether the person responsible wishes to acknowledge that to themself or to others. What a sad situation, all round.

Arky,

Alissa gave a very reasonable explanation for this. It seems a lot of people who weren't even posting on the board anymore were just coming on to use the pms, and that's not the vision she has for the board.

I looked for the thread where she explained it but couldn't find it. If someone else finds it, I'm sure they'd be happy to post it for you!

Freedom of speech, be it private or public, is something worth fighting for, IMHO, but I guess, in this instance, I am in the minority. No offense intended to anyone, least of all Alissa - I simply beg to differ and will have to leave it at that :(

Freedom of speech, be it private or public, is something worth fighting for, IMHO, but I guess, in this instance, I am in the minority. No offense intended to anyone, least of all Alissa - I simply beg to differ and will have to leave it at that :(
J.

No one is stopping you or anyone else here from "freedom of speech" and whether you are "convinced that it is the best approach" or not really doesn't matter. It IS Alissa's board for which she pays a high premium to keep this IN SUPPORT OF RAW FOOD. People have a choice if they want to receive emails or not. For those who don't, is that limiting of free speech?

Anyway, back on topic. For those who've read the first book and are getting the second, I would also like to know the differences. (...and I agree, David is a "hottie".) :p

Freedom of speech, be it private or public, is something worth fighting for, IMHO, but I guess, in this instance, I am in the minority.

This has nothing to do with freedom of speech. Freedom of speech means the GOVERNMENT can't censor your public speech. . . what Alissa has done is she's basically told people that if they want to PM each other without participating on the board, they can do it on their OWN dime (bandwidth). In other words, she doesn't want to pay for it. Nor should she. Not all message boards have PM.

I speak for myself and all the volvo drivers I personally know, we are liberal and proud. We drive our cars forever and usually stock them full of goodies at the HFS. My HFS lot typically has a few wagons and sedans whenever I am there.

I can even picture David, shirtless and smiling, driving a volvo 240 wagon. I see his bands instuments and a barrel of avocados in the back. Of course, the door is blocking my view, he could be practicing his naturalism on those soft seats for all I know. ponder......

I am very bemused that you consider Freedom of Speech to apply only to govermental control of human rights - what an incredibly narrow definition! That aside, I don't wish to labour this issue (no pun intended, BTW) - as I said at the end of my last message, I'm not baying for blood - I simply see things differently and don't see why all members should be distrusted simply because a minority of members see fit to abuse the PM system. This is tantamount to tarring everybody with the same brush and 'punishing' the majority for the misdemeanours of the minority. However, TO REPEAT: "No offense intended to anyone, least of all Alissa - I simply beg to differ and will have to leave it at that "

LOL.....are you republican bac? Leo? drive a volvo? wear autum colors? ;)

Lol - that amuses me by virtue of the fact that I am NOTHING even REMOTELY as you suspect - I am, if anything, liberal, and I do not even live in the States, which I consider a blessing of almighty proportions, given the behaviour of the current government. ...But let's not discuss politics, huh? Let's stick to something safer like religion! ;)

Now, BACK on TOPIC, I received my new edition of Wolfe's SFDSS from Shazzie today and I must say it's a nice book, with plenty of nuggets of information, in much the same vein as the same author's 'Eating For Beauty', which I also enjoyed reading.

I'll have to find the time to read it now, which is no easy task in my life, but I'll report back once I have done so.

Hey what's up Arky?

I know you wanted to "squash" this whole PM portion of this discussion, but I just wanted to say that removing the PM's is something Alissa has wanted to do for a long time now. I mean, she's talked to me about this on several occasions prior to recent events that led up to the final demise of the PM feature. But I'm thinking that she didn't do it sooner because she didn't want to take that away from the members and perhaps because she wasn't sure how to "justify" such a decision with everyone. But the (somewhat) recent events of abusing that feature was like the "icing on the cake" so to speak. It was like the final straw once she found out what was going on behind "closed doors" and thus, that was her reason and justfication to finally do what she had been wanting to do all along for various reasons.

But I gotta give it to ya Arky...that initial post you wrote regarding this issue had me ready to nominate you for the Academy Award!! LMBO! :D
(PLEEEASE don't be sore at me for my little jokey-joke..I'm just joshing with ya...givin' ya a hard time there, that's all!)

Don't worry, you'll adapt to not having the PM feature. I mean after all, it's been almost 3 weeks and you just found out it was gone yesterday ;)

Bringing this thread back on topic...

I've now read most of the new edition and, to be honest (and paradoxically), it was not the nutritional aspects of the book which I most appreciated!!

I consider the book to be of primary value for it's inspirational quotes, scattered throughout the book. There's some really great philosophical quotes in there which make the book well worth the asking price.

Another book I would heartily recommend for inspirational value, is Jason Vale's (AKA 'The Juicemaster') 'Turbo Charge Your Life' (http://www.thejuicemaster.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=22&category_id=10&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=51)

It's not a specifically raw-orientated book, aimed, as it is, at a somewhat broader audience. However, it is not the dietary advice that I recommend it for (although he does a pretty fair job of this, within a mainstream framework, despite the unfortunate inclusion of soy in the equation). The simple, inspirational format of the book really is worth it's weight in gold and the book is priced for peanuts as it is. If any raw-foodists buy it for inspirational purposes only, I think they'll be very satisfied indeed with the book and be very glad they bought it - I know I was :)

In summary, I recommend members of this forum to buy both Wolfe's 6th edition and Vale's 'Turbocharge Your Life' if you want to feel incredibly inspired on your path towards health and vitality.

Just in case anyone searched this thread to see actual opinions of the book, I'll put in my two cents.. I think it is one of the best books on raw foods. I don't think there is any book that is perfect or ideal, but the information, research, and presentation of raw foods knowledge is excellent in Sunfood. I liked it very much. I consult it almost every day.

I think David Wolfe is amazing, and I love to read his books and listen to his talks. Very inspiring, as you've mentioned. However, I always use a mental filter with him, because I find that his whole religion angle on raw foods to be a tad hokey. That's just me. But I love benefiting from his enthusiasm and the huge amount of research he has done.

aromaticwings

My take on David and his superfoods is that he has learned a tremenous amount of new information scientifically and nutritionally in the recent years. And wants to teach us for the future.

I do beleive that these new so called superfoods do have the possibility to support us nutritionally and who knows.. sometime and maybe in the very near future we may need these "superfoods" to keep us going as our produce will be so contaminated.

I don't know to what extreme I want to think but you know alot can happen in a world that is always at war. If we can learn to grow our own foods inside a building and have them support our immune systems and other nutritional needs I am all for some pioneer learning and teaching all this to me.

I have tried alot of the superfoods...suppliments... whatever you want to call them and outside of the cost.. I actualy think they are great. I have felt wonderful... these along with eating raw... well .. a body can only benefit ...

Natural Hygenics do not beleive in all the extra things but I feel they are a benefit in this day and age... and want to learn more... more... more... Can not wait til I can afford the bestdayever site again... I feel I am missing valuable information.

I hear David's new book does go into more detail about the superfoods.... Darn I wish I could afford the book!

David is wonderful... and regarding him making money... Well he is a teacher and sells the products he believes in.. and Alissa has just gone in a different route by making teachers... and offering the basic knowledge and machines needed for the basics... both are going strong and doing well.. But both are equally up there in my book as to their passions and motivations.. RAW LIFE is MOre Healthy. :D

Added thought... speaking of superfoods.. What is anyones take on the E3Live?? It sounds wonderful... but again that darn cost.. I think I will starve if I have to depend on something like these things in the future... sure cant afford them now :(
