View Full Version : The humble daffodil is full of surprises!
Many of you will be aware that many yellow flowers (dandelion, marigold etc) are, when eaten, great sources of carotenoids such as lutein. However, did you know that the humble daffodil also contains compounds beneficial in the fight against dementia?:

Rowan,
Thank you so much! That really makes me feel so good inside :) Especially because I wasn't feeling too hot last night and today. Thanks again for making me smile :)

Snapdragons are edible. Some references have it listed as similar in taste to arugula.
Here is a website on edible flowers. http://asiarecipe.com/flowers.html
Just be carefull, the petals of some are edible while the stem, root and leaves are not.

Yes borage are pretty little blue/purple flowers with white in the center and black stamens. So very very sweet. The leaves are a little furry too.
I love your pic SmellyDelly too... want to share where the name comes from too? *GRIN*

Thank you Sheryl! Aw, fuzzy feelings :)
SmellyDelly. It all starts with my favorite childhood cartoon--Rocko's Modern Life. In one episode, they make a cartoon named "Wacky Delly". It's about deli meats and cheese and it's animated very badly, but it's hilarious. So, my screen name on aol instant messenger is WakkyDelly. And when I was thinking about what my name on here would be, I thought it would be funny to be "SmellyDelly". I had the idea that when people would respond to my posts they'd say: "Hey, Smelly, blahblah blah etc." and I thought it was hilarious. It happens, and it makes me chuckle...but I wish I had chosen a more 'glamorous' name :o :D

YEP,
we eat lots of flowers, my hubby does wild edible collecting most days, and he brings home tons of flowers, at first I would put them in a vase, and we would just grab and eat, thought that was funny, especially when we had company, but now I just put them in the water to keep them fresh, like most wild edibles, then into a salad or as a garnish on the side of a dish, etc.
we eat alot of these flowers,
raspberry,
blackberry
arugula
radish
english daisy
dill
mint
mustard
onion
garlic
sage
basil
thyme
hyssop
day lilly
marigold
nasturtium
camomile
lilac
lavendar
clover
violas
also when we allow certain plants to go to seed, we have squash cauliflower and brocolli,
we also love squash flowers, but hate to eat them because then we can't have the squash plant.
oh yes, and roses. mmmmmmmmmmm
