Hi everyone - I'm 25 & have had chronic constipation for 10+ years...and of course with that has come a whole host of other problems. I normally go about 1x every 2 weeks! I've been to more dr.s & have had more tests/drugs, etc. than you can count - and nothing works - and the tests results are always normal. So no one knows why my body isn't working!
Since trying the raw diet (basically raw with some really bad cheat days) I've been about every 3-4 days which is so much better - but i'm still feeling awful! So i'm hoping this forum will help me gain some insight as to how to eat raw to specifically help heal MY problems - not only just for better health in general - i need specific healing. I don't personally kow anyone who eats this way, and I live in Mexico so fabulous health food stores are not an option for me, so it's been a bit hard, but I'm hoping to find ways to make it work.
ANY advice would be GREATLY appreciated! I'm miserable!

Hi! Are you 100% raw? That might help. I had constipation my whole life and BM'd about 1-2 times per week and that felt awful. I cannot imagine how you felt only 1-2 times per 2 weeks. I am have BM's about 3-6 times per day. I feel soooo much better. Maybe 100% raw will do it for you. And maybe your body will get kicked into gear and speed up for you soon.

I've had the same problem with constipation. When I took my first colonic the lady told me that I had a bad case of contipation, I knew this as I was only going about once or twice a week. Now unless I'm bloated I go 3 or 4 times a day, Oh what a relief.
You feel tired all the time when you can't go like you are suppose to. Being raw has really helped me and it feels so good.

I was also going to suggest a colonic - have you tried that yet? I also agree that going 100% raw should help. There is a big difference in the body's reaction to almost 100% to completely 100%, really. And I know this might sound simple and obvious, but do you drink enough water every day? In Mexico, you may have to purchase bottled water, but water can do wonders down under :)
Oh, and one other thing. Have you thought about doing a parasite cleanse?
Wishing you a speedy recovery. I know how awful you must feel.

rawrunnergirl,
I have had the same problem for years. Go to the webiste spirit of healing.com and the girl's names is Ena. She is wonderful. I did a colom cleanse, kidney cleanse and parasite cleanse. I am much more regular now. How is the weight loss going? this could be part of the problem

Hi!
You've had some great responses so far to your question. From my own experience and others I know, I have to agree that going all raw and drinking lots of water should make a huge difference. Having several BMs a day is the norm for the all-raw people I know, myself included.
If you're not sure how to go all raw and you don't have Alissa's book yet, you can start on her home page (Click on her name in the left corner of this page) and, from there, you can get a good idea of generally what to eat.
Also, do you exercise at all? If not, just walking each day can get and keep things moving.

I know exactly how you feel rawrunnergirl...Make sure that you are getting enough water. I have had problems with constipation for probably a little over 10 years now. Still, even living and eating healthier, I am lucky if I go 2 or 3 times a week. I can remember a conventional doctor telling me that this was "normal"....I think that the colonic will be a good idea, just do your research.... The only thing I might suggest to you that has really helped me is food combining...right now I am cleansing but I first started actively learning and focusing on food combining about 5 years or so ago. It was the perfect fit for me, when I combined my foods properly, the bloated was greatly diminished and the bowel movements were more frequent. The last thing I'd like to offer is abdominal massage...my best friend used to always use me as his guinea pig when he was training in school (now a CLMT) and he talked me into doing an abdominal massage because he knew about my constipation. I was in the bathroom 30 minutes later. He showed me how to be still and listen to my body and "feel" what is normal/abnormal as far as placement of the body organs go. It really works, when I am really constipated and in serious pain, I can lie on my back and find do the massage techniques and find the "mass" (actually feels like a hard rock) and manipulate it and I will usually have to go in the next hour (especially if I've drank enough water)....I hope this helps

Hi and
WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME
I too had cronic constipation throughout my life, because my mom was sure that eating only meat and no veggies or fruit would make her (and me) thin.
it didn't work, but I can remember having to go for days, then finally going with alot of pain and challenges. this was my entire life, once a week was normal for me.
Now, I feel I need to go, and I do immediately, about 3 to 4 times a day, and it is easy effortless, no pain, and about 2 pieces of TP.
so, there is hope for you.
I eat 100% raw
probably about 80% fruit
15 % veggies
5% nuts
5% oils, spices, grains, herbs
although I've thought to go fruitarian, I simply can not give up my root veggies and herbs, and greens, so here I am and happy too.
Please know that you will feel so much better eating raw foods,
good luck to you, and please let us know how you are doing, and how we can help.

THANKYOU so much for all your replies! So to answer some questions... I guess I have to say I am NOT 100% raw...I would like to be, and for a month or more I was, but then I just stopped. Who knows why. I was feeling better! But it's hard...I don't have the great health food stores available to me to get great ingredients to make raw treats. (is that my excuse?!!) Anyway, so I'm TRYING to be 100% raw, but I'm not. But since so many seem to think going all the way will help, then I will go all the way.
I have had colonics done, but they've been so difficult cause I'm SO stopped up. however I did feel better afterwards, but it didn't help clear up anything long term. I still couldn't go on my own. But maybe I should try getting a series done and really get cleaned out?
And I have done a parasite cleanse...but maybe I should do a natural & more in-depth one - any suggestions? Mine was just prescription cause I got parasites here in MX.
I am exercising - make a point to do that...but can't lose weight (i posted that somewhere else) But I am trying to make sure i work out everyday to TRY and get things moving!
Anyway, so I don't know if those answers are helpful or not, but thanks so much for your responses - I've got them all written down and will try to work on the various Ideas...i'm so excited about this forum cause i don't know anyone who does raw and this is so great to get feedback!!! :D

Anyway, so I'm TRYING to be 100% raw, but I'm not. But since so many seem to think going all the way will help, then I will go all the way.I would recommend that you do go completely raw. This will allow your body to eliminate what's built up rather than just adding to the waste that's holding on in there. You said you began to feel better, so there's great feedback from your body! If you have or get Alissa's book, you'll find that you don't need to get much at health food stores -- and you will have her wonderful, supportive, lively voice with you all the time guiding you along.
I have had colonics done, but they've been so difficult cause I'm SO stopped up. however I did feel better afterwards, but it didn't help clear up anything long term. I still couldn't go on my own. And I have done a parasite cleanse...but maybe I should do a natural & more in-depth one - any suggestions? Mine was just prescription cause I got parasites here in MX.Again -- I suggest you take one step at a time. Go all raw for 30 days and then re-evaluate your constipation. (However, I wouldn't do a parasite cleanse just "because" - without a stool test by an excellent lab that definitely showed parasites - this is my opinion based on my own experience and I know that it flies in the face of the current parasite cleanse frenzy!)
I am exercising - make a point to do that...but can't lose weight (i posted that somewhere else) But I am trying to make sure i work out everyday to TRY and get things moving!Just walking is the best exercise for constipation -- if you mean by "exercising" and "work out" something other than walking, you might want to add that immediately. And .. it's so easy to just walk out the door and then 15 minutes later, turn around and walk back. Ha ha!!
Anyway, so I don't know if those answers are helpful or not, but thanks so much for your responses - I've got them all written down and will try to work on the various Ideas...i'm so excited about this forum cause i don't know anyone who does raw and this is so great to get feedback!!! :DThis forum can be the best support you can get. When I started raw, I knew no one else eating that way ... and this forum is what got me through my first 30 days.
Welcome, again!
p.s. How much water do you drink a day?

Possibly finding someone to supervise a fast or juice cleanse to let your body catch up could be an option. They start fresh once you're cleared out.
I told a doctor once that I went many times a day. He too thought I was abnormal. Then I read when studying medicine that it's completely normal for eating new food to start extra peristalysis of the colon (the aqueezing movement that moves things through) to make way for the new food. NORMAL!!! Wasn't news to me. I've never had issues with constipation, but know that I definitely am more connected to the waves and connection between food and digestion now.
Godo luck - you've got lots of great ideas here and I'm sure will find the answer you are looking for... as Raw Truth said.... 30 days!!! 30 days!
Cheers,
Sheryl
