View Full Version : Alissa's Burger Bun recipe is SO versatile!

I just had to share...I made the mix for Alissa's burger bun but omitted the spices and herbs and just added only the sea salt for a neutral bread.
I made one tray of flat bread (spread about 1/4") that I intend to cut into square "slices" once it's done.
I had some "dough" left over and decided to process it with a banana, some vanilla, some agave to taste, chopped walnuts and cinnamon. Spread it, flipped it when part way done and I tasted a little piece of the end that was more done than the middle and it is de-LICIOUS! Soft and warm and just a delicious banana-nut bread.
So, I really think this recipe can be used as a base for making various flavors of bread...I have given up on making loaves or buns...I like just spreading it (not TOO thin) and making flat bread instead.
My intention with my plain bread is to (once it's done) mix up some olive oil, a little coconut oil, sea salt and garlic powder; spread on the bread and have garlic bread!

I truly appreciate that you shared your experiments in the kitchen Rawkinlocs!! I love breads and I like to eat variety of breads but have not done so much of bread experimentation since raw so this would be an inspiration. However I have been busy travelling lately and I so missed my kitchen!! Can you believe it, the moment I reached home I went straight to my kitchen and hugged my dehydrator, juicer and blender!!! Right now I am home but its so tiring to just think of preparing food! Lately I have been consuming just lots of fruits, nuts and simple salads! But its just so comforting to know that the 'gadgets' are very close by!! :p
Again this is truly an inspiration!! Also I am thankful that you shared your experiments for I will never have the time nor courage to want to be so adventurous! The end result is always disastrous if I tend to be adventurous, so this is awesome report!!
Thank you ever so much!! :D

Thank you Rawkinlocs, this is just what I need! I think the idea of making a flat bread is very good and if it's thin enough (but thicker than crackers of course) it will solve the problem of soggy insides.
Although I don't eat a lot of dehydrated things, I find it so helpful to make some and have them in the freezer ready for when that urge hits. It thaws out very quickly in the dehydrator. Alissa was so right when she said -- I'm paraphrasing her here -- be prepared for when you fancy something heavier...

Sounds good. I like flat breads also but haven't experimented with any bread recipes yet. I wanted to try the burger buns but backed off because of the sprouting. I'm going to give it a try though so I can have some of this delicious bread. Thanks Rawkinlocs.

This sounds wonderful! I've gotta make a trip to Whole Foods to buy more supplies...it's been awhile! Thanks for the tips with the burger recipe. I've already made more carrot/pecan burger, but used the onion bread because I had the ingredients. Your recipe for "banana bread" sounds MAAHVELOUS DARLING! ;) Your a genious! When I grow up I wanna be like you!

Wow, that sounds soo good!! I have Alissia's book and DVD and have tried many of the recipes and LOVE most of them. My next quest is the pizza and calzone.
I will keep in mind your recipe for the "banana bread".
Blessings,
Anne

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yeah, this is definitely a keeper...it was completely "done" this morning and I cut it up and had two "slices". It's really good. I forgot to mention that I didn't sprout my buckwheat. I soaked it overnight and drained it and used it. I've had too much trouble making dehydrated things with sprouts in the past that I just didn't bother. Perhaps since I'm spreading it thinner and therefore cutting the drying time down it might work, but I didn't take that chance this time. But just make sure you rinse your buckwheat well to get most of the slime off.
I took a few pictures and made one collage photo...

Yep, it still has the carrots. I thought about that after I had spread it and put in the dehydrator, but then I thought about carrot cake and how delicious that is as a dessert or sweet treat. The carrots don't bother the flavor at all. I only took out the curry, rosemary, garlic and thyme.

Shelah, hmmmm...I can't remember exactly...but I think it took a total of about 6-8 hours...about 3-4 hours drying time on one side and then flipped over to the mesh tray, about another 3-4 hours. I didn't really time it, but that seems "about" right. It should be soft and pliable, but not wet and mushy inside.
Rawredbone, I JUST saw your post...glad you liked my little modification (and your own)! :)
