There are so many people concearned with Proteins. In recent post lilly wants to convert South Beach Diet - hight protein into RAW and is concearned about getting enough proteins! I was also in the beginning. Now I'm relaxing the proetin issue, as I read this I want to share it with all. Hope it answers everyones Protein questions and concearns.

"THE BODY DOES NOT NEED A DAILY INTAKE OF PROTEIN AND FAT TO FUNCTION AND HEAL; PRETEIN CONSUMPTION IS NOT THE DRIVING FORCE IN HEALING, DESPITE THE COMMON CONTRARY NOTIONS. THE BODY RECYCLES APPROXIMATELY 75% OF ITS PROTEIN AND CONTLESS PEOPLE HAVE RECOVERED THEIR HEALTH IN THE QUICKEST TIME POSSIBLE BY RESTING AND LIVING SOLELY ON WATER (FASTING), OR WATER AND FRESH JUICES AND SWEET LOW-FAT FRUITS".

Approximately 15% of our daily calories should come from protein. Only 15% !!
The average American consumes too much protien on a daily basis.

How much (really how little) protein do you need? An active adult needs 0.4 –0.6 grams of protein per body weight.

“One farmer says to me, ''You cannot live on vegetable food solely, for it furnishes nothing to make bones with;'' and so he religiously devotes a part of his day to supplying his system with the raw material of bones; walking all the while he talks behind his oxen, which, with vegetable-made bones, jerk him and his lumbering plow along in spite of every obstacle”. - Henry David Thoreau

Hey, wyjoz, you got me wrong! I most certainly do NOT want to convert to the South Beach Diet! I was simply replying to a question that someone else asked about this, and if you read what I said, i was advising them NOT to try and do a raw South Beach!

As I said on that thread, and I repeat, to me the whole essence of the raw diet is that there is no diet structure but that we listen to our own body.

In my opinion, there is no problem about protein on the raw vegan diet: I agree with the quote from David Klein.

It is amazing that this post popped up, I saw one of these articles today.

It has information on how many believe low carb high protein is bad. Just show them one of these:

I really believe that when I did atkins 3 years ago it made the problems that I had in my body much worse. I remember I had to stop doing atkins because I started to get sick. At the time, I was happy with the weight loss, but unhappy with how I felt. At the time I attributed it to "my illnessed were getting worse, which they were, but it was because of the atkins diet.

I just wanted to pipe in here and say that I think that even 15% is a pretty high number for protein. The time in our lives when we are growing most rapidly is during infancy. Mother's milk is really never more than 7% protein. I don't really pay attention to protein consumption at all-but when I have played around checking it out I am always way above what I feel is necessary. And I feel great-even pregnant! Soooo, ITA with everyone!
