cn I still use them, or should I return them to the store?

If they're toasted, they wouldn't be raw.

That would depend ~ are you 100% raw and wish to stay that way? If so, return them.
No, no sense in soaking. Then you'll just have soggy toasted buckwheat. :(

Well, the problem is in finding raw groats. I got mine from Whole Foods only to bring them home and read the ingredients and...toasted. Didn't say that on the label. It's a pita though. Hopefully you'll be able to find some raw ones somewhere.

Hi Samadhisoul,
Don't make yourself crazy over one bag of toasted buckwheat. If they are toasted they won't sprout so you won't get that extra zing of live enzymes, but they are still very nutritious and should be soaked overnight before eating them. Return them if you can and get raw, or use them now and get raw next time.
Here's a smoothie I made for myself earlier this afternoon that is great with what you got, and even better with raw groats. Do what you can til you can do what you want to do. :)
Bucky Smoothie
1/2 cup soaked and sprouted (if possible) hulled buckwheat
1/4 cup soaked and sprouted almonds
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen berries
mineral water to fill to desired level
Blend slow for 30 secs to chop and mix the frozen fruit, then blend on high until creamy smooth.
If the buckwheat is alive and sprouted, this makes an especially good energy drink.
*soaked means covered with water overnight
*sprouted means drained after soaking, but kept moist with air contact until sprouting process begins
