I am doing a test on brown rice. So far, it looks as though the rice is sprouting!

Now, this is just regular ole' brown rice from Wall Mart, noting fancy. It's not even Organic.

The soaked rice is actually sprouting a tail which is quite surprising to me.

I will keep ya'll informed about the outcome. This could prove to be quite enlightening.:)

I bought some brown rice from Safeway and it sprouted. It took a very long time...but it sprouted :D

Yes, it sprouts, but no matter what you do to it, it tastes like chalk.

Good luck.
Been there, done that. :D

Yikes, good to know. I think I'll stay away from that.

My advice, once you get the sprouted tail longer, and the side rootlets start and you get the feathery little first leaves, is to put it in a pot with dirt and keep it very wet... remember it is grown underwater in rice paddies... and put in a sunny place and watch it grow into rather a pretty tall grassy houseplant.

But eat it? No way. Chalk actually tastes better.

BWWAAAHAAAAA!!

Thanks, guys! :)

That is so funny S. Since the rice tastse like chalk, guess my experiment is frutiless unless I do actually plant the stuff. At least it won't go to waste, LOL!

Edited to add: The rice is not sprouting any further. I am ending this experiment as I don't wish to eat chalk.

Thanks all for the suggestions :)

Does anyone have any thoughts to why wheat only takes a day or two to sprout and brown rice takes a week?

I am considering trying to make essene bread from brown rice....
