Everytime I have to start over on 100%, I get awful headaches. I know I am suffering from caffeine detox, amongst other things. I've allowed myself green tea to help, but my family needs me to be able to function. As of this very minute (I'm on about day 7 of 100%) I have an awful headache, borderline migrain. I get really discouraged, as of the last time I went raw, in December, the headaches started in the 2nd month and lasted for more than a week or two. Some days were better than others, but I had a headache everyday....is there something I can add, or take away for that matter, that can help?? I hate to take drugs everyday, I feel like I'm keeping my body from getting rid of something it needs to. Is this correct, or should I just take the meds. to keep the headaches at bay? Our computer crashed, and we just got it back, so I haven't posted here or on my journal, I'll start that so you all can see. My diet pretty much consists of fruit mornings, green smoothies, pates, nori rolls about 2 days/week, nuts or date/nut balls....that's all I can think of right now. thanks for any suggestions.

tvillemom,

The same thing happened to me. Someone a at a raw eco-living health lecture told me that magnesium helps, I ate more nuts and the headaches pretty much went away so I bought some magnesium suppliments and yes they went away completely. You may be deficient in magnesium.

You know, I should have thought of that. A friend of mine suffered with severe migrains for years, and after adding a magnesium supplement, they went away. I guess I figured my diet was better than hers (it actually is, she is very, very small and eats about nothing!) So I guess I figured my diet was "complete" enough not to be deficient in anything. Guess I was wrong. Maybe it was during those days that I was eating less nuts. I guess this is where keeping a food journal comes in handy!! Thanks again.

Doing enemas helped me out tremendously in the early stages of raw as I used to suffer chronic headaches even before going raw. But I was very err...ummm...backed up. In my personal experience, it was cleaning out my bowels (along with the diet change) that helped my headaches go away.

tvillemom,

Remember that there is the issue these days of vitamin and mineral deficienies in plants because of the depletion of nutrients in soil from the land being over farmed and under fertilized and properly cared for. Apparently this is becoming a problem. I personally feel like I only need a half of a multi vitamin and mineral suppliment twice a week or so. I do the same with the calcium and magnesium suppliment.

As a largely ex-migraine sufferer since going raw, I remembered that it was coffee enemas that used to help me. Nowadays, I get headaches (though not the severe migraine type any more, thank goodness) after those occasions when I've 'had' to eat some cooked food socially.

I'm phasing this out, but it's a tough one for me. Not eating the food -- I really don't want that any more -- but making a fuss socially. I know I'll get better at being sstrong and assertive about my needs and beliefs. But in the meantime, I think enemas might help afterwards.

Now I don't drink coffee any more, would coffee enemeas be right from the 'medicinal raw' point of view, or would another type be better, such as distilled water? What kind of enemas did you do, Rawkinlocs, if I might ask a personal question?

Thanks --

I also have headaches(hopefully had). I got advice on this board to do enemas, so I got one colonic and now do at least 2 enemas a week and after water enema runs clean(like after 2-3 bags), I put wheatgrass juice implants-very small, because I don't have much juice, but so far, so good - no headaches for a month(well. I did have couple times weak one, but it never escalated to awful one). I would be good to do this every day for a while, but it takes so much time, and since I do not have bad disease,I guess my motivation is not that high.
Try enemas, at first I did notlike the idea, but it gets easier, and they do seem to work. Good luck!

Hi Lily,

Sure, I don't mind the question. In all actuality, I haven't done enemas in quite some time. But the last time I did one, it was a very weak coffee enema. I've never been a coffee drinker and whenever I've done the coffee enemas, I've never had an effect such as a strong, addictive desire to want to drink it or even to do more enemas. I don't think it works that way. I don't know all the mechanics behind it and all, but when I was doing enemas more frequently to aid in my bowel cleansing, I didn't always do coffee...in fact, I used coffee VERY rarely. Most times it was distilled (or purified) water with perhaps some colon cleanse herbs mixed in or maybe sea salt.

I got most of my enema info from www.curezone.com as they list and discuss various ways and methods of doing these. But after a while, I stopped and eating raw has kinda picked up where they left off! :)

Thanks, Rawkinlocs, that was a very quick (and very helpful) reply!

Thanks ya'll for the info. I'll have to at least consider an inema. It's not something I think I need, as I'm pretty regular, but it may be that I have something that needs detoxing in that area.

I find it helps to increase my water intake
Dilute those toxins! :)
Its a simple remedy, easily overlooked.

Enemas are not about regularity - I went 2-3 times a day and still had headaches. They help to flush the toxins out. My headaches, if not supressed by painkillers would eventually become unbrerable, I would be more and more nauseated and eventually I would throw up. After that the headache would be completely gone, but then would slowly build up again.
That just showed me, that reason behind my headaches was toxins inside of me.I don't know if yours are, but you won't loose much by trying, and you can gain a lot.

OK...greeninla, and others, I guess I have to do some research here. I guess the only "personal" experience I've had with enemas was that my mom said her mom would give them enemas ALL the time growing up (if their stool didn't "look" right) she was afraid of them dying from getting backed up. Where should I look to learn more about this? I hate to be too personal here, if someone doesn't mind sharing....maybe even PM me that would be great.
By the way, I did get a magnesium supplement and took the first one last night....so far no headache......but I'm sure cleansing would help detox. I also suffer from candida...so would enemas help with this also? Thanks for all your help.
