So I am officially 100% on my 2nd day now. Yay for me! Last night was a tough experience, everything on me flared up, my sinuses, massive headache, muscle aches, etc. I feel good today, except I almost feel depressed in a way. Just kinda bummed and want to be left alone? Granted my period is supposed to come next week and I am still taking gross birth control pills which I don't want to take but can't risk being pregnant any time soon. So do you think any of this is connected to the raw detox transition? Thanx! :p

IMHO - One day of raw does not a detox make.

I dont know what IMHO means, but I also know that one day of raw makes a detox. I was just asking if maybe it was connected :(

It means in my humble opinion-

I don't believe you can be detoxing the first day of raw.

Please don't take offence - it's just my opinion.

flowerchild,

Hi! I believe that you are detoxing. I started detoxing on my second day. For the depression, try either a banana, nuts or a magnesium suppliment. Bananas have been shown to help depression and they help me.

Sounds like some changes going on! I remeber having changes the first day....in fact within 5 hours. It's amazing how the body can change as soon as it is given a break ;)

I've been doing quite a bit of reading on depression & avocados & brazil nuts are really great choices. :)

I've felt changes in my body w/in hours-both good & bad from food changes.

I have definately had all those symptoms within the first few days of starting raw.

for sure you can start detoxing in the first day, but if you are already going into a detox, like getting a cold or something, raw might accelerate it.

When I first went raw, I had perlesch on my lips (candida inflammation, makes them crack, peel and feel really painful) and the last time I went raw I was in the middle of a respiratory infection.

what happened raw is that they both got worse for a couple of weeks.

My theory is that if the body sees a "portal" where toxins are already coming out, when you go raw it will say, "oh good, there's an open door to throw these toxins out of..." and so it can seem to get worse. DONCHA WORRY! JUST STAY RAW! you'll get better and better and better.....

Same thing happened to me. Drink lots of water. This helps oh so much to allieviate the headache and heady felling you might have. Also I find that I sometimes feel a bit poopy and depressed if I eat a relatively large amount of detox food items. I find this lasts till my next good crap.

If someone addicted to caffine can get a 'caffine headache/withdrawl headache' after only a few hours without coffee, soda, ect, then certainly you can get a detox headache from eating cooked food.

Yes, been experiencing all those things this weekend.
Just started my second month of no cooked food.

The symptoms sort of came together, stopped then came back again.
QUITE BIZARE!

I drank lots of water and rested.

I just wrote it down in my journal with all the other strange things that have happened since going raw! :)

I guess I will be a bit of the outsider on this, with Alice. I find it so difficult to accept that detox happens within hours of going raw. Have you never gone half a day without eating just because something prevented you from doing so? Did you detox then? Have you ever enjoyed fruit for breakfast and then had to skip a lunch for some reason and go another few hours before a cooked meal. Assuming your last cooked food was the night before, you were technically raw for possibly 24 hours. Did you detox then?

I believe detox happens but unless you exclusively ate cooked at every meal and snack prior to going raw; it's just not a switch that happens in hours. I think many vegetarians/vegans unintentionally or intentionally eat raw for half their days and experience no signs of detox. If you want to talk about a change in glucose levels or caffiene; that makes more sense then experiencing detox immediately. If you are sick when you start raw, most likely, you will feel worse before better just because you are typically eating less calories and your body is adjusting to the change in protein sources. It doesn't mean that you have even begun to get the junk out of your system.

I started feeling a bit weak and had some definite changes in my movements within a couple days. I noticed a marked improvement in energy and regularity by about day three or four. I'm sure I would have felt much worse if I wasn't emotionally prepared to go raw and if I felt deprived in any way or if I hadn't already given up caffiene. I'm still detoxing and I'm sure will detox for years to come; even without being aware of every toxin that leaves. I will also have an occasional headache, the rare sniffle and I'm sure a few upset stomachs a long the way; it's not always detox.

Detox is a very personal and individual thing but until we accept that sometimes even the most pure raw foodists can get sick we may just dismiss illness for detox and never get fully well.

different people have different metabolisms,

My son gets very light headed and sick to his stomach if he goes without lunch, or a snack, as he is getting more and more raw, he is doing better,

He's on his 5th day 100% raw, and he went all day with only a cashew nutmilk shake for breakfast, then at 5PM he finally ate some more food.

He NEVER could have done this the first day.

so detox within hours?

Yes, absolutely, how it affects each person may be different.

so, was this detox? who knows but YOU and your body.

Will it get better? YES,

how long until it gets better? again. only YOU and your body will know.

just keep eating raw, and keep posting with questions, and since we are all individuals, you'll get lots of different answers, all of them GREAT, from our own personal experiences.

Hi! I am going through a very minor detox at this time. I notice when I lose fat, I also get detox symptoms. I believe it is because the toxins that are in the fat (from before I went raw), are now going through my system on their way out of my body and this causes the detox symptoms. In fact, when I stepped on the scale and it said I lost a pound, I thought, "I am going to detox again" and sure enough I am.
