Not sure if this post belongs here or not. but i bought my first mango today and it was the first one I've eatin. It was so good! But was wondering ifyour supposed to eat the skin or not.

I love them, I have not been able to find ones that are organic yet - so The one that I get I most definetly peel the skin off with a peeler. then devour them.

Mangos are normally peeled off. When you buy them from street venders in Mexico, they usually poke a sharpened stick into the stem end to to make a little handle for you, then peel the skin off using the long sharp thumbnail they cultivate for that purpose. :)

On a pragmatic level, the skins readily absorb toxins and environmental pollution in their long trip to market, so throwing the skins way allows you to eat only the clean flesh below.

BTW, just to totally digress for a moment, the correct plural of mango is mangos, not mango's. In the hysterically funny bestseller, grammar and punctuation guide "Eats, Shoots, & Leaves," the author Lynne Truss calls this increasingly common mistake the greengrocer's error, becuase it is an error apparently popularized by erroneous signs in produce markets.
