I'VE BEEN VEGAN FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND HAVE MAINTAINED A WEIGHT I AM VERY HAPPY WITH. SINCE GOING RAW- 3 WEEKS NOW- I FIND MY WEIGHT CREEPING UP! SEEMS LIKE I WANT TO EAT ALL THE TIME! I DO ALOT OF RAW GREENS AND VEGGIES, BUT I BELIEVE THE INCREASE IN NUTS AND SEEDS MAY BE THE CULPRIT. HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS?

Hi Sharon,

It could be the nuts and seeds. Try plugging in what you eat into http://www.fitday.com You might be surprised how many calories or fat you are getting from the nuts and seeds. Or simpler yet, just cut back on your nuts and seeds and see if the weight gain stops.

I normally don't eat nuts and seeds, but just recently started eating sunflower seeds. I'll have to see if the amount I'm eating will cause my weight to stop coming off.

i dont think raw foods really gives anyone the right to say you can eat all you want and never gain weight just because its raw food!... thats atleast what lots of raw food gurus always say...
and ive also read it in alot of books... that one can eat as much as they want with raw foods and never gain weight..rather they'll lose weight and get down to their ideal weight!!
well that saying doesnt go for me! lol i wish it did.. like it might for alot of other poeple... but i stuggle with my weight no matter what i eat!!

i gain weight from anything that has fat in it... besides avocados, but those keep me from a lean body! nuts and seeds are a huge no no for me... i rarely ever have the.. only on occassion to get some of the vitamins they contain! and when i eat to many sweet fruits my weight starts to creep up on me also!!
so basically.. with a raw foods diet.. im stuck with eating lots and lots of vegies...( which im not the biggest friend of lol ) and low glycemic fruits.. like oranges..apples...that type of thing!!
bananas also put on the pounds for me.. im not sure why! its rather odd lol but they do it for me! i guess cuz their a sweet fruit! .. my body doesnt like to much sugar and to much fat!! so i gotta watch what i eat... EVEN with raw foods :)

i can eat large amounts of steamed sweet potato and roasted chestnuts tho and not gain a pound....which lots of poeple always ban out of their diet when their trying to lose weight!!

hmm well just proves everyone is different...and even with raw foods... some poeplejust haev to watch what they eat!

what it comes down to.. is usually calories... if you take in to many calories .. more then your burning... you'll gain weight!!!

hope sharing my experience helped a little bit. those are my thoughts anyways.

Thanks, Guys For The Feedback. Pink, I Think You Hit The Nail On The Head: Everyone Is Very Much An Individual, With Highly Specific Needs- What May Work For Me May Not Work For You!

I'm Going To Take Your Advice, Helen, And Try Keeping Track For A Few Days Just To See How Many Calories I Am Actually Taking In!

On Another Note... Is Anyone Planning To Go To Atlanta In Feb. To See David Wolfe? I've Already Signed Up, And Am Anxious To See Some Good Raw Food Demonstrations!

Blessings To You All!

Hi Sharon,

I didn't know that David Wolf was going to be in Atlanta. Would you post the info on this over in the Raw Food Events section on this board? Thanks.
