This is NOT an ethical question. I'm new to raw and was previously a vegetarian who ate no animal products (egg/dairy) but did eat fish. Will raw fish keep me from detoxing? The protein was very beneficial in keeping my blood sugars stable (I'm a juvenille diabetic) and I have been experiencing constant and sever hypogylcemia since going raw.
Since there are enzymes in raw meat/cheese, will I get the benfits of a raw diet if I eat raw fish?
Thank you.

This is a raw VEGAN board; we do not use or advocate using animal products.
But I am sure someone will e-mail you or pop in here with your answer.

You need to be working with your doctor; those who post here are not able to give medical advice. You dont want to put your life in the hands of someone you dont know on the net. You need a diabetic doctor since you are type one.
I am sure with some research you will find a vegan/ maybe even a raw doctor.

I can certainly understand your concerns about the blood sugar sensitvity and needing to keep it stable. Have you discussed the new Raw diet with your Dr ? Your physician should be aware of the dietary changes.
This a Vegan/vegetarian board so you will not a response or a "yes go ahead " on raw fish. In fact we do not get into discussions on this aspect of raw because no one I know on this board eats raw meat or any meat that I am aware of.
So why not get your protein from Kale, Collards, Hemp Powder (see Alissa'a Store) and Plant sources. Our body does not say OK I can only use animal protein, it likes Plant protein as well if not better !
You can add hemp to so many foods. And Kale is so high in Protein. I get more than enough from these sources.
Also rawfood.com has Thor's Raw Power Protein Powder. This is really good. I wish Alissa would carry it so I could buy it here !!!
Keep us up on your progress.

Thanks so much for some vegan sources of protein that are not nuts! I will definitely check them out.
My Dr. is aware of the chnages I've been incorporating and has helped me to keep cutting back my insulin... it is just so bizarre. He is mystified- I'm a full grown woman and now on a pediatric dose. It's awesome, but frustrating while we take the "guess and check" approach.
Sorry again about posting this on a vegan board- totally forgot. But if you have any more raw vegan sources of protein I'd greatly appreciate it! I relied heavily on soy and quorn in the past which now of course are not options.

You are very lucky to have the choice to go raw. My cousin is a J diabetic and he has kidney problems and must NOT eat much fresh foods or even cooked fresh foods. Even lettus makes his sugar go up. His pacrus (sp?) does not work at ALL.He can only eat animal meat in order to stay alive and keep his sugar down. He spent the first 15 years of his diabetes NOT following any diet plan and had ruined his health.
So If you find yourself in his situation dont worry about your choice of eating meat; however if you have been taking care of yourself ; I am sure a doctor will HAVE to except your life style. You may just need some tweeking to make if fit you.

The raw jungle peanuts at Nature's First Law are high in protein. I have insulin resistance, and if I add a little fat, like avacado and or coconut oil, it helps me out in the blood sugar department. Raw foods in general help with that. I have less brain fog dizzy issues since I have been doing raw.
Hope that helps. Good Luck.
