AH okay I'm finally back on track with being raw and do not want to go off. However, my spring break is coming up been planned before I even knew of RAW. ANd there is no way I'm backing out of going to the beach. Love the ocean! Anyways everyone i'm going with has the attitude drink drink drink. Theres that which I think I can avoid by bringing my own organic wine. However I'm going to be on the road alot and staying at random places. I was thinking of bringing a cooler to put my fruits in but too much space. I don't think I will have too much trouble b/c I'll be too happy j/ being at the beach to even think of food. But there's still the factor I will get hungry and be around my friends eating tempting SAD. I'm gonna stay strong hopefully! But if anyone have any suggestions for this type of situation I'd love to hear them. Otherwise I'll let you know how I get through this struggle its been on my mind for awhile.

I am going to Florida for Spring Break, too. I hate Ohio weather!

I plan on taking bars with me. When we stop for fast food I will order salad. I am packing some veggies to snack on in a really small soft pack cooler.

macybare,
Hey i'm going to a beach area too for spring break? what beach are you going to?
Do you have Alissa's book yet?
coz in there are some easy recipes that you can make and then stick 'em in a cooler the size that will hold a six pack in.
My cooler that i use all the time, will hold 3 six packs and two sandwiches on top and room for ice to boot.
I just made Alissa's mock salmon pate it'll last me for 2 to 3 meals.
also the collard green rolls will last 3 to 4 meals
make a couple of banana smoothies for the long drives.
Buy a bunch of dates split half way take out the seed and stuff it with: raw honey, vegan carob chips, couple banana's, rasins - put all that into a food processor until real smooth, then stuff all those dates they'll last 2 days or less depending on how many you eat :D

goto this link and see if there's anything in the area where your going to?

try to find about any places like stores or health food places - walmarts
do what you have to do to take care of number 1 not what all your drunk buddies are going to be doing! :D

Perhaps, once you are at your destination, you can buy an inexpensive ice bucket, fill it some ice, place fruit/veggies on top and sit on the beach with your fruit/veggie bucket. Lots of people carry little carriers/bags with food in the containers.

At night, always eat some fruit before you go out. Tell the chef beforehand what you would like. Perhaps they can place tomatoes, basil, garlic, salt in a blender and make either marinara to go over shredded zucchini, butternut squash or carrots. Maybe even gazpacho?

Hot weather is always a perfect time to eat lots of fruit. If you are in a populated area, fruit should be no problem.

Hope this helps.

Blessings.

Even if you can't bring a cooler you can bring a lot of fruit in a box or bag. Remember, it didn't grow up in a refrigerator. Most of it grew up in the beautiful sun and heat. Even when I'm at home, I often shop a few items that are "almost" ripe so that when I'm done with the ripe items, the others are ready for me. You can do the same when travelling. Also, when you get down there, steal the car and head to the local market. Get a few bags and be the one enjoying a juicey orange on the beach while your friends are being miserable with their sticky icecream on a stick franken-food.

Hi macybare,
I am south of Dayton. Near the Dayton Mall.

I LOVE JUNGLE JIM'S! I shop there twice a month! I go to the Wild Oats in Mason, too. Where do you shop? Do you know of any raw restaurants in your area?

Ha I used to live in miamisburg right by the mall for about three weeks this past summer. Now I'm back in cinci. Jungle Jims is a favorite of mine too. Wild oats also there is one right by me. However I find alot of fresh food at pipkins a farmers market real close. You should visit Findley market sometime during the summer or warmer weather. It's this awesome place in Over the Rhine. don't worry its safe! But they have the greatest stuff. They have one store that has just about every olive you could think of and another with tons and tons of nuts. oh yeah lots of dried fruits and mushrooms was another store too. The rest of the place was just open market selling everything from bracelets to flowers to crazy fruits and veggies! (watch out for the meat section tho it can be kind of disturbing) Last summer was the first time I'd been there and wasn't a raw foodist yet, but was still so amazed. I bought a mini-watermelon it was so juicy!

If you are going to the beach, someplace warm, I would think that'd be an ideal place to be raw. . . when I was in college (years ago) I spent one spring break in Jamaica, where we stayed in a house on the beach with no electricity. We had no choice but to basically eat fruit from roadside stands everyday, since we couldn't cook, had no fridge and had no restaurants nearby. We also ate jerk chicken, but the bulk of our food was fresh, local fruit. And it was incredibly delicious and satisfying to me, even though I was bigtime SAD.

I would bring down some dry, bulk stuff like nuts and Lara Bars and then just be fruitarian all week. :p
