Hello,

I'm looking for a variety of fresh organic dates. My local natural food store sells the fresh organic medjool dates for only 3.99 per lb, which is great but I would like to try some other types.

Has anyone had any success ordering dates online? If so, which companies would you recommend?

Thanks for all of your help.

Havent ordered yet but noticed that naturalgrocers.com is having a sale on their dates. They seem to have a bit of variety. Good luck!

Sheryl,

Good suggestion. I bought a wet pack from them and they are fantastic. Don't remember if it was three or four varieties. Really enjoyed them all, though. Think they are in Niland, CA.

I'm very fond of OASIS DATE GARDENS in Thermal, California. Their dates are organic and fresh and the Barhi dates are to die for! You can find them online and order online or by telephone. I've been buying dates from them for years.

MMmm, thank you to those who wrote about barhi dates. I just got some from the co-op; what a treat!!

I just read on another thread that sometimes dates are pasteurized. I had no idea and am quite disappointed. I guess I have to ask some questions at the co-op.

Finally, does anyone know the proper pronunciation of Barhi? Could you give me a phonetic spelling of it?

Finally, does anyone know the proper pronunciation of Barhi? Could you give me a phonetic spelling of it? I've always heard it pronoinced at BAR hee They're also known as Honey Ball dates. Originally from Iraq, been grown in California bout 100 years, very luscious, but not nearly as productive as other types, so not widely grown.

Oasis Date Farms are raw...but I think RowanC mentioned that somewhere above...

Do The Date People have a website, or do you have to call them??

Does anyone know dates to be constipating?? Just wondering...

We are soooo lucky here. We are surrounded by date farms. There is one organic farm that we trade our goat manure for dates.(We raise dairy goats :D for milk for the kids and homemade soaps www.steffissuds.com - the rest of my family at home - currently 10 are not raw vegans! However, we try to stay with organic and home farm raised beef, pork chicken and fresh eggs) My favorite are the jumbo medjool. They also have some wonderful confection dates too. Their current prices are $52.00 for 15 lbs of the jumbo medjool, my favorite. They include a 5lb of honey dates with 15lbs or more order. There are lots of farms that ship from this area. It is amazing the difference of taste and texture of a fresh date from those sold in most stores.
