Are these safe to take on a juice fast? I miss having a bowel movement :(
03-08-2006, 10:36 AM
no bowl movemnts....
When your going through a fast, your body will be working on other areas of your system so your bowls may shut done for a awhile. When I did my 16 day juice fast and recovery time. After I started I had 1 bm the each day for for first 2 days. Then nothing for 3 days and 1 bm. then nothing for like 5 days. now I had 5 or 6 times a day urination. Of course everybody body is different. But you want your body to work on other area's of your system to try and clean and fix your insides. So no, to the tea's. :)

So what do I do to help get the toxins out? I read all this stuff on autointoxication and I don't want that to happen. I have done 2 enemas and the 2nd one did not do its JOB!!! LOL!!!
And I have heard bad things about the salt water flush.
BUT you did address one of my main concerns..... I am very concern of not having regular bowel movements after my fast BUT am happy to know from other fasters that it does return.

If you are still fasting, Most fasting site will advocate to doing some type of elimination while you fast to "rid" the toxins from the colon. It's said that if you start to feel sick while fasting, dizziness or catch some kind of ill feeling, it's best to do anelimination. There are so many views but it's what you can handle and what does feel physically right for you.
Only my perosnal opinion on these here....I am against and SENNA leaf teas. Harsh and heart palpitations with senna and other members complaining of same reaction. Other teas, b/c they are herbs, are drying to the body so styaing hydrated is important. Enemas to me are harsh with excessvie use. I think every 4-6 days is a good duration IF you do an eliminator. Cousens says it takes about 7 days for the colon to cleanse.........Powder form of magnesium is AWESOME!
Keep in mind that even when you finish fasting, toxins are still floating so sehat you eat POST FAST makes a huge difference.
Best to you Kiwi!!!!!! :)
I too, must agree I am not an advocate for senna teas and things of the like....
When I did a prolonged juice fast/cleansing...I did colonics.
I felt great after that.....
Just a thought

I have had no BM since the 25th of Feb. or so. I tried but nothing. I was begining to worry. I read that having an enema is good for cleaning you out during a fast. I was really leery about it all. I broke down and bought a saline enema last week, but just used it last night. I was very leery about it but I thought all it could do is flush out anything that might be there. I was really suprised with the results. I still had stuff in my intestines after 16 days!.
I don't know if I will do it again in the following weeks, but I felt so much better afterwards that I was just so surprised by it all. :o
I am not promoting the enema thing, but I did read that once a week during a fast is good for you. I don't know if I could do that. I really don't know if I can do another one after last night. Of course, everyone is different.
Good luck Kiwilime with getting the answers you need. :)

Where can you buy the Magnesium powder? Did you take it?
I just stopped by the market and all the laxative teas contained Senna. I did not buy it. I personally don't like senna too. But I was thinking that there might be others safer herbs that also work like laxatives.
For now I bought some organic prunes and raisins and I will soak them 8-10 hours and drink it. I'll see what happens.
If anyone thinks this is not a good idea let me know and why.

at least a quart of the prune juice.
I use Dr. Giliham's CALM
I take it larger does for BM cleanse. My sis react even just by 1/2 tsp. You may have to experiment with it and see. :)

I drink apple juice and can get BM everyday. I also try to do colonics to help get rid of toxin.
At least you have to have something out everyday. That is important.
Wish you all well,

MissLinda....r u there? :)
Ok....I went to the store and bought natural calm yesterday. I was really feeling that toxic and the enemas just wasn't working. It was crazy...the store was in LA....and I had an hour to travel only 20 miles. Long story short I called the manager when I was stuck in traffic and he was awesome he waited for me and I did not get there til 7:30. I can't believe it took me 20 minutes to travel 1 mile.
Ok sorry....on to my point. I took it but I still did not get relief. Is it suppose to work the next day or in a couple of hours? BUT....I did an enema 2 hours after I took the Natural Calm.....and boy oh boy did I get rid of alot of stuff. I FEEL VERY VERY GOOD AGAIN. Thanks much....I almost broke my fast b/c I felt backed up....I feel awesome and strong enough to keep going.
How did you take it to get relief w/o using an enema? Like tsp a day til relief?
03-09-2006, 10:34 PM
LOL...........can you hear me????
The magnesium works very calmy it's not like BIG BOOM but it draws it all down to the colon so I'mnot suprised it came out. Typcially, you should increase dosage to get magensium to self eliminate. I ususally react to 3 tsp.
It really does work but your minimum dosage without having a laxative effect, will be your dosage for replenishing your mag levels.
HOw do you like it? Don't you feel calm and balanced internlly? I have never met anyone who didn't like it!!!!!
03-09-2006, 10:55 PM
Yes I hear you...hehehe....
I liked it very much. I was too stressed out so I took an enema along with the product. I will take it like you suggest...now that most of the stuff came out. :)
I liked the product very much and I slept very well last night vs. the night before I had insomnia.
AND to anyone living in Los Angelos....the assistant manage named Jim is awesome.....he kept the store opened for me a half hour after it was close b/c I was stuck in traffic. I definitely will be back at that store!

In case anyone is following this thread...just keep in mind to start low on the natural calm. The first day I took too much (don't ask me why) and LOL...it was a nauseating next day.
But it really did help with my bloating. I liked it waayyyyy better than senna.
Thanks Misslinda for all your knowledge on fasting.
03-10-2006, 11:41 PM
OMG, how much did you take?
yur so welcome kiwilime!
03-10-2006, 11:55 PM
LOL...I'm too embarassed to say. I knew better but I was soooooo bloated. I felt there was so much toxins waiting to get out but there was no escape.
Lets just say I took it based on the direction for "advanced" users. And this was my first time.
I caution anyone who reads this.....start SLOW!!!!
Enemas don't work that well for me. But it was the combo of the CALM (i believe it help dissolve the stuff in my body and help it release) and the enema that saved me from breaking my fast.
I felt GREAT after but the next day morning I tasted the magnesium in my mouth and was nauseous I had to do another enema....and more stuff came out.
Don't worry the dose was safe to take. I'm here and feeling AWESOME on my fast.
03-10-2006, 11:59 PM
THe excess mags go thru your kidneys and flushes out.........it's very alkalizing. Are you going to take anything to rebuild the flora when you're done fastng..........btrw, how long are you fasting?
03-11-2006, 12:10 AM
Yes I plan to take acidophilus. Do you think I can take it orally or shoud I take it as an enema? I'll have to read more.
I think I will fast for 30 days. I can't believe how easy this is going....except the first 3 days. I have read that it is probably easy b/c my body is doing alot of detoxing and cleaning. I can really feel this going on and it is making me so excited. I'll stop early if I lose too much weight or if my "true" hunger sets in.
Oh your journal has been so helpful for me. I started researching on slippery elm (never heard of that before) and detox bath (wow..this one felt great).
You are sooooo helpful girlie!! :)
03-11-2006, 12:11 AM
BTW homemade prune juice and apple juice did not work for me. I think I was extremely clogged with harden gunk.
03-11-2006, 12:14 AM
Woman, I am so glad to hear you sound so vibrant! Acidophlis is from dairy product if I am correct not vegan.
Are you gonna take it when you're done with fasting or sooner?
Are you getting a good portion of greens in your juicing?
It's incredibe but you're right your body will cue you when the fast needs to end.
03-11-2006, 12:26 AM
Thanks I feel vibrant...until the next detox crisis. But I'm actually looking forward to it b/c I know my body will be healing.
Do you think I should take the acidophilus during my fast? I plan to after for sure.
My fast consists of mostly greens...all kinds of greens, spinach, cucumber, kale, collard, celery, etc with usually one apple to sweeten it up.
OH and I just bought Dandelion greens...it smells so good.
I've done other short fasts before and hated it..I think I was juicing too much fruits and no greens and I did not know enough. This fast feels totally different, almost liberating.
And the thing is I was initially juicing sooooo much and the past two days..I don't even want it. I still juice only one cup cuz I'm kinda scared to water fast. But the truth is I don't feel like any juices. And with one cup a day for the last two days has been more than enough.
I think also straining my juices has been another key to my success. I don't have a great juicer and my prior fasts consisted of pulp and juice cuz I did not know any better. But this time I removed the pulp and foam and I think it help me with getting into this phase easier and faster.
Hopefully this helps anyone who is also interested in juice fasting.
03-11-2006, 08:35 AM
You're better off juicig rather than water fasting. You can dillute your juices to wheen away form concentration but ultimately, a juice fast is the best in my opnion.
You can wait until your fas is done to take the probiotic supplement. Is your supplemetn vegan?
03-11-2006, 10:13 PM
Acidophilus comes in vegan caps/tabs? I haven't bought any. But I willl make sure to check it out.
YEs I think I will stick with juicing vs. water fasting...I really want to make sure I get lots of nutrients.
03-12-2006, 12:29 AM
kiwi are you vegan? also how do you strain your juice? with a coffee filter?
03-12-2006, 12:37 AM
Hey jen...how u doing? I'm vegan now :) . Prior to this I ate meat. I still miss meat but I really plan and also am hoping that my fast will help me stay raw vegan.
I have an ok juicer...but it leaves alot of pulp. I think that is why my prior fasts were so hard b/c I was still digesting...leaving me hungry and quitting my fast.
I bought a strainer (they sell it everywhere like at walmart, target, etc...) and once I finish juicing..I strain my juice to remove all the pulp.
How's the fast going?
03-12-2006, 10:14 PM
Hi everyone I have been soooo hungry for 2 days that I broke my fast today with a watered down veg. smoothie and a tablesoon of raw kraut. I know it was the right thing to do for me. I am not disappointed myself because this is the longest I have ever fasted and prayed both. With God help I know now I have control over my eating, urges. I will increase my fiber and raw food slowly over the next 12 days until I am back to a 100% raw diet. From now until the end of lent I will do a Friday 24 hour fast. That is what I did when I was on a SAD diet. I will keep you all in my prayers. That you reach your goals and grow from the experience and are blessed.
I am going to keep on checking here to see how you are all doing on your journey.
03-14-2006, 12:14 AM
I posted about my fast undering fasting for lent
so what brand did u buy and how much was it?
03-14-2006, 12:26 AM
I bought Natural Calm...recommended by sweet Miss Linda.
I bought it at their store in Los Angelos. I'm not sure if they sell it at Whole Foods or other places. It was like twenty something dollars. It comes in 3 sizes. If you want more info let me know. I don't take it daily. Only when I am super bloated and it has really helped me.
