Chia seeds are the richest vegan plant source of omega 3's known, eclipsing flax in the unsaturated fatty acid, linoleic, which the body cannot manufacture. Omega 3's comprise around one third of the entire brain, making them vital especially in infancy. They are also exceptional sources of calcium uniquely combined by nature with high levels of boron which catalyses it's the absorption and utilization by the body.

The will create a gel in water within 30 minutes and absorb up to 17 times their weight in water (or juice is really tasty too).

And they grow really well!!!

The first is my husband, the second a house guest named Harley who is a 100% raw vegan Ultra Endurance Cyclist!

It takes about a week to grow to that height. They are tasty sprouts.

You can substitute chia for flax in almost any recipe. It's less processed and easier to digest too.

I've been making pizza bases with:
2 cups carrot pulp
2 cups buckwheat flour
1 cup ground chia
Carrot juice/veggie juice added as needed to make a dough.
1/2 cup chopped herbs, mixed in

Then for show I chop some red onion, deseeded tomatoes and herbs and press into the top to look pretty.

They are DELICIOUS and very crunchy!

Cheers,
Sheryl

I found Chia seeds at our local co-op in the herb and vitamin section, but I'm sure you can order them on-line. I have been grinding them up like flax and drinking with water.

I am glad to share! I took a photo last week of my husband (chia pet #1) wearing a champadek skin (a type of jackfruit). It's mysteriously disappeared. I wonder if it's still on the digital camera or has been deleted... hmmm....

I'm sorry, madam, but the hardworking folks at Shivananda's Test Kitchen (STK) are not amused. Your ChiaHead wighat is obviously a blatant knockoff of the celebrated RomaineHead wighat made famous by Chef Shivananda, and now patented in 130 countries worldwide.

The substitution of chia sprouts for the original, authentic head of romaine lettuce does not constitute a new use, a fair use, or an authorized use of patented STK technologies. It is still green living matter, which, as previously detailed in Amazing Phenomena magazine, provides not only cool protection from alien thought probing rays, but also constitutes emergency provisions when one is unexpectedly caught away from organic raw grazing sources at meal time.

As Chef Shivananda's authorized legal representative, I must insist you immediately cease and desist. Simply toss all your current inventory with a little fresh lemon and olive oil and eat it for lunch and we will drop our currently scheduled crushing litigation against you, and move on to the troubling matter of the cheap BokChoyHead wighats from China which are beginning to flood the flea markets and sidewalk vendors' stands. Alternatively, you may make a one-time PayPal donation of $5,000 USD to the Shivananda Foundation for Abused Veggies (SFAV) which will grant you a limited license to continue marketing ChiaHead wighats within a 100 mile radius of your principle place of business.

I look forward to your speedy and favorable response.

Very truly yours,

Sheryl, do you chew the chia seeds if you take these in a glass of juice,
or is swallowing just fine? I think chewing is not neccesary, but I am not sure

My father turned me on to Chia after he read about it from Paul Braggs use and experience.

He bought me a 5 lb box of seeds and man does it last LONG!!

I use 1/4 cup in my jar filled with Really good water (worth the price) and I make the gel by swishing it as it congeals. It didn't take me any time to get used to the consistancy but for some it might. It is tasteless and it is amazing stuff!!

It holds water 9x it's weight and carries it deep into your body hydrating you very well.

Do a Google on it and just read about its history and nutritional properties!!

You can chew the seeds but they are very small and what I read about them is that the Inca indians use to carry a pouch of them and add water along the way to keep them on their feet for long trips and hunting.

Cool stuff!!

Chewing is a good idea... some find if they don't they slide through a little too fast if you know what I mean!! Chewing always helps release the goodness inside too.

It's so strange you never read about these seeds, when you search for detoxing- or fastinginformation, I think these seeds can be very usefull for
these activities, aren't they?

According to THIS SITE (http://www.eatchia.com/flax.htm) it looks like chia has more carbs, calcium, and fiber, flax has more protein.

Where did you get the info about the fatty acids?

* you can soak them and use after half an hour, but for more/better effects
soak them overnight, one tablespoon in a glass of water.

* You can even use them in pudding (as a gel) , or a little bit when you make for example avocado-lemon pie (binding factor).

Do any of you know about chan? I read a list with "chan" in it in Comiendo Pura Vida. Googling, after finding lots of pages about people in China, and several pages about floors in Galicia, I found a page about the seed. It's a relative of chia (both are in the mint family).

So The chia seeds dont absorb the water? Cuz I did put the tablespoon in water, and all it did was sink to the bottom. I was going to put it in a smoothie, I wouldnt be able to drink it. NO NO. Yuck. Only hidden in the green rich layers of my green smoothies...

They do absorp 14 times there own weight. Try de overnight soaking.
If they don't soak, the seed is bad quality

And they grow really well!!!Yes they do, especially at body temperature. :)

Here we see the serious consequenses when people are using soaked seeds with the seed gel in a homemade shampoo,
and don't heedfully rinse the seeds out before going to sleep!

Always shower your hair for not less than 2 minutes!

Interesting! I'd like to learn more. I consume chia and have reaped wonderful benefits; I'd like to know about this chan. Do you know where it is available?

The book was written by a Costa Rican, so it might be available there. Other than that I read about it there, and that it's in the mint family, I know nothing about it.

The Galician word is the cognate of Portuguese "chão".
