How long does a smoothie stay in your belly for? I'm asking b/c I have a hard time getting in 3 littres of h20 each day when I'm constantly grazing on foods lol.
I try to wait 30 minutes after fruit... 1 hour after bananas, and 1-2 hours after veggies & nuts. (I don't eat dried fruit).
But I just don't know how long I should wait to drink water after I have a smoothie :o
Thanks

What's in your smoothie?
For me I purposley add 1 cup of water with my fruit or vegie smoothies, to help with the digestion process.

Usually it's 1 banana, some strawberries (or other fruit), 1/2 avo, 1 large glass of water, 2 tbsp of ground flax seeds, 1 large handfull of mixed greens... that's about it I think :p

I drink water at any time before or after eating...is that not correct? Should I be waiting a certain period of time? what benefits or drawback are involved?
thanks for posting this.

I don't see anything wrong with or unnatural about drinking water with food.

hmmm... I've always read that it retards digestions... b/c you are diluting your digestive juices (both acidic and alkaline)... and therefore your stomach has to throw "more" digestive juices at your food in order to digest it (and the process takes longer than necessary).
Anyone know for sure... ??
Like Path, I put about 8oz of water in my smoothie---but i only use greens and fruit.--no fats.
I find that it digests great with the water in it....
I wait about 30 minutes before i drink water after consuming my smoothie--but it is only because I am not thirsty..I am very satisfied.

If you're drinking smoothies, there's plenty of water in that. Don't stress so much over getting enough water. Drink when you're thirsty. It's possible to get too much water!
On this raw foods diet, we get a lot of good water naturally through the fresh fruits and veggies we're eating.
I know an older woman in her 90's - I've mentioned her before - she's been raw for 40 years. She drinks NO water... says she doesn't like the taste. And she's fine ::shrug:::very healthy, does yoga, swims .. NINETY
Hey.. that's pretty impressive for me.
I've heard that your food doesn't digest as well if you drink water with it because it weakens the stomach acids. Maybe... but is there any actual scientific research on this? Or is it just someone's opinion?
Water is a good thing, don't get me wrong. You need it for your joints to work, your organs to function, for the toxins to be flushed out, etc. But I just don't think there is any one recipe for each and every person. Listen to your body. Drink when you're thirsty. You'll be fine.

Rawmagnolia,,
what is your current stomach health? what happens when you eat for example, an apple? a salad? combo?
do you have consitent bowels?
for those that have existing digestive problems, you may not have the luxury of watering your smoothies. Depends.

Misslinda...
My stomach health... I'm not sure... never really considered it. But I've always said that I have an iron gut... nothing gets to it. When I eat foods and combine I feel just fine... may have a bit of "burping" if you will, but no discomfort... and no problems with drinking my smoothies so far. And my bowels :::blushes::: are operating a lot lately :D I can't believe how many times I've visited the bathroom today for that. Eating basically a SAD diet I usually once had a bm once a day... and lately it's been more.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts on the water topic. I'm "always" thirsty... so I guess I'll just not worry too much about it unless I have stomach discomfort.
Blessings!!
Sandra
