View Full Version : Help my smoothies are not so smoothe!
I am trying to make a decent green smoothie.
I have a basic smoothie maker. (Kenwood concert)
It works well with soft fruit and copes well with ice cubes.
When i add apple carrots or cabbage into the fruit, the mixture ends up more of a 'pulpie' than a smoothie!
I have tried adding more liquid but it just isnt that appealing.
To make a better one, do i need to upgrade my machine or am i trying to achieve the impossible?

carrots, apple and cabbage are very fibrous foods, so I would only add a bit, or juice them first.
How much are you adding?
and with what else?
A good smoothie, is
one hand full of greens
2 bananas
1 cup ice cubes
1 cup juicy fruits (oranges, berries, etc)
so you could add carrot juice for the juicy
or cabbage as the greens
or apple as the juice, (juice first)
or you could try adding just 1/4 cup of these to your smoothie, and see how you like it.

I have the same problem with my Vitamix from time to time, so it isn't your blender! Unfortunately the only way to fix that is to either cut down on the hader/ fiberous foods or to add some sort of liquid be it juice or water. Once in a while I'll end up with an orange that isn't very juicy so I have to add a bit of water to my smoothie or I end up with stringy pulpy yuckiness.

thanks for the replies
i have been trying to combine 60% fruit To 40% greens
Spinach is ok, cabbage is a little 'bitty',
I remove the hard stalks from the greens.
your suggestions are useful.

I've had good luck with doing a green smoothie with an apple, a lemon, a handfull of spinach and some water. Gotta have that extra water or it just comes out as pulp. Banana's are also notorious for needing extra liquid in the smoothie. If your doing a citrus fruit I'd blend that up first to get all the liquid going, then add the rest of the stuff. Seems to make everything else blend up better. Your definately doing a higher ratio of greens than I am.. I'm getting mabee 33 to 25% at most.

also cut up the pieces that you have trouble with into smaller pieces before putting them in - I seem to have more luck that way - though I am only just starting on green smoothies - had 2 today and loved them both.
