Does brown rice that you buy in the bags at the store sprout? I know it may sound like a stupid question, but I've never seen or heard of anyone sprouting rice.

Yes, brown rice that is fresh, whether in a bag or bulk, should sprout. Then you can plant it in a pot and it makes a pretty, grassy plant as long as you water it constantly.

But I wouldn't try to eat it. Even when the rice sprout gets fairly big the remaining kernel is still pretty hard and unappetizing.

Well that's discourging to know, as I have several big bags of brown rice that I can't afford let go to waste!! I guess I'll just have to finish it off during my transition to 100% raw.... Maybe I'll make a bunch of rice dishes and bring them to work to share with others....

Yes, I have reminded myself a number of times that a perfectly valid thing to do with any food I'm not going to eat myself, is to give it to someone who will appreciate it.

Unless, of course, it glow in the dark, in which case I just discard it.
