View Full Version : Has anyone notice change in hair on raw
Has anyone noticed a change in their hair color on raw? If I look at the roots of my hair they seems lighter(not grey) but a lighter color. My hair is light brown and my roots about an half inch of medium blond. I have never read where this happens. My hair was very light blond until it started to darken around the age of 20.

My hair got softer and prettier, then I started taking calcium and magnesium and vitamin and mineral suppliments and almost immediately it got thicker and not quite as smooth, but maybe it will smooth more over time.

I am still not 100% raw, yet, but I did stop eating dairy, eggs and almonds. I am allergic to these things. My hair is coming in thicker now and is very shiny. I am now getting lots of compliments on it. I used to get a lot of compliments on it, but it got all wacky after pregnancy and a susequent thyroid problem. I thought this was to blame, but more likely it was the food allergies.
My daughter is a Leo and they are supposed to have full hair. She had very little hair at all until about age 3 and then it was stick straight, very fine and there wasn't much of it at all. Since stopping the foods she is allergic to, new hair is coming in like mad! The new hair is a light brown rather than dark blonde and it's wavy. Not straight! Very strange indeed. You wouldn't think that food would affect our hair so much unless we were getting an excess or had a deficiency of something.

mine, too. very wavy now. I'm 45 yrs. old with a family history of premature graying. You can tell how much I'm cheating at the moment by how much gray is in my hair. If I'm eating extremely high raw (I'm not 100%) then you barely see any gray at all. But if I've fallen off the wagon (more like the turnip truck) then you see a LOT of gray. :p

Mine for some reason has gotten MUCH drier, and I am looking for something better to wash it with... what does everyone use?

I wash with baking soda (mix 1 tsp with just a tiny bit of water in a cup, put a bit on scalp, rub in, do this until gone) and rinse with apple cider vinegar (the distilled inedible version from the supermarket, not the good stuff with the mother of vinegar from the health food store).
That's it.
My hair is better than ever after going "poo-less" (i.e. no shampoo!), it feels thicker, looks glossy - just better all around!

Yes, I read about people getting their childhood color back again quite a few times.
As far as myself, I was losing a lot, after about 6 months into raw. Then, it was very dry and breaking up easily (I have very soft, fine hair), and I discovered that it is better if I use less shampoo. So, I started using less shampoo and less often, and in the process, my hair got curlier and curlier. Now, I use a tiny amount of body wash, about once a week. This still dries my hair, so I have to use conditioner as well. So, occasionally, I use only water for weeks and weeks. I wish I could stop using detergents altogether, they clearly are no good for me.
I do not use any shampoos to wash my daughter's hair, and her hair is beautiful and shiny. In the past, when we used shampoo on her hair, it used to get very dry and looked lik straw at times.

Mine has really thinned a lot...I think I'm not eating enough fats...wish I could say good things have happened...it's my own fault for not eating more avocados and nuts I think.

my hair has gotten noticebably softer and easier to style with hair products since going raw.. also i noticed that my hair clumps against other strands nicely and seems to do what i want.. i could never do that when i was pre-raw.. i usually can tell when i'm cheating on raw -- i usually have a bad hair day.

My hair seems to be growing faster, at least in length. I had tried quite a few times to stop using shampoo and conditioner. I've washed my hair with honey or baking soda and used a vinegar or lemon juice rinse...my hair looks horrid every single time....it feels greasy (and I do not have oily hair) and flat....looks just awful. I use an organic shampoo, etc...even tried with just water and it is flat and lifeless.....any suggestions?
PS It looks fine when using the organic products~

My hair has gotten much more manageable and grows a lot faster. I eat a lot of cucumbers (silica) to help and I've recently discovered that FIJI water has a naturally high silica count too which is great because I love that water. I have noticed a slight lightening in my hair color but nothing drastic.

I've always dyed my hair. Since going raw it's been falling out in huge amounts. No problem b/c my hair is thick as can be. However it clogs the drains and seems to always be everywhere. At the same time I"m losing it tho I'm always growing it in a lot faster and want this to happen b/c will hopefully go back to my normal brown instead of red.

soo funny you should say that..i was at the gym today, and as i was sitting there on the machine between sets, i was staring into the mirror at my hair and was like "wow..my hair looks so much darker. why is that?"
i have brown/dark brown hair with golden highlights (natural) in it..and i always hate the tawny gold it sometimes turns. BUT..it was soo dark brown, almost BLACK when i was younger. (my mom said i looked like a china doll when i was born with tons of black hair and black painted on eyebrows :) )
i love overlapping situations like that...me thinking that, and then reading your comment. demonstrates how we're all intertwined :D

ps
my hair in my picture is black bc i dyed it last summer lol, not because it's naturally like that anymore.
My hair seems to fall out a lot more....but it grows very fast. The falling out part makes me a tad nervous.?? I also think my shower water and local weather have something to do with it also.

Now that people have mentioned it, I noticed my hair growing faster. For a few years I felt like it was barely growing. I can't wait to have my long, long hair back :D
I've always had really healthy, thick hair though, and I still use regular cheap shampoos. However, I notice I don't have to wash it as often because it doesn't get as greasy on raw. I don't ever intend to be as much as a raw purist as others though :o Call me a stick in the mud :p
I have noticed that both my hair and nails grow faster when eating RAW.

My hair is growing faster, isn't getting dry and brittle at the ends anymore, the gray is almost gone (wow!), and it is dryer and I find I don't need to wash it everyday but that every other day seems fine. This really surprises me, I've always washed my hair daily for at least the past 30 years! And it has way more waves and curls now too, I wonder why others also seem to have this happen?

Mine doesn't seem to be falling out or thinning all over, but a few weeks ago, my dh noticed a bald spot up on the top back of my head. He said it was about the size of a dime then and now it's more like a nickel.
It's been bothering me that it's getting worse instead of better. We don't notice any regrowth so far -- I'm eating plenty of fats, but may have developed a vitamin B deficiency, so I've been supplementing with that and MSM, and a Collagen supplement. I also have been massaging rosemary oil, with no improvement.
I did a search here on the site and saw that Alissa recommended to someone to eat more greens. Greens have always been my weak spot, but I'm taking Alissa's advice to heart and am learning ways to eat them (and even enjoy them at times. ;) )
I'm also trying the vodka/cayenne pepper tonic, although I was sad to read that you're supposed to shake it up daily for 2 weeks before using it (I don't want the bald spot to get bigger while I wait!) - - But I'm trying to be patient. My dh suggested I use a tiny barrette or hair pin to keep my hair over the spot (yes, I'm doing a comb-over  ) so that's what I'm doing there for now.
I'll let you know when it improves. I'd love to have my hair come back and even thicken -- it's always been baby-fine.........
