sorry i keep posting but I keep seeing all these crazy things today. I soaked my sunflower nuts in water for about two days and then set them by the window to dry out a little in a bowl for another day. I just lookedd at them and realiized they started sprouting! They weren't in mudd or anything just burried among themselves. I'm gonna let them keep growing and see what happens!

I am surprised because I thought that after 2 days they would have drowned but those critters are more ressilient that I had thought. They should ideally be soaked for 6 to 8 hours.

If you give them something to dig their toes into, like a little dirt, they will eventually grow to about 5" tall, when they make the most delicious crunch greens to add to a salad.

But normally after you soak sunflower seeds in water overnight to soften them (for a pate, for instance) you should put them in the refrig to keep them fresh and slow down the sprouting process if you don't use them right away.

I have done this with sunflower seeds with great success so I decided to be adventurous and try the same with pumpkin seeds. They grew up nicely and then I added them to a green smoothie. I was very sick for hours after it. Dont know if I have warned about this before.

Sunflower seed pate sounds fascinating... does it get Tahini (I love tahini so much I can eat it off the spoon)... I could create one. Maybe I should look in the recipe section...

Do you have Alissa's book? The recipe is in there, page 384, and yes, it uses tahini.
