Does anyone know if artisana almond butter and tahini are actually raw they claim to be? I was reading old posts last night and found the one about maranatha almond butter and was really upset because I had a new jar. Thanks for all your help :)

Hi AsHlEy27,
The almond butter is indeed raw from what I've found.
"Artisana Raw Organic Almond Butter is made from 100% Raw, Organic California Almonds -- the highest quality, best tasting almonds available anywhere in the world. This is truly raw Almond Butter: Unadulterated, pure almond heaven! High in protein and loaded with energy. 8-oz. jar.
Artisanas organic live foods are handcrafted with care and made into butter using a special low heat process (always below 115º F) that preserves life-essential fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, and enzymes. Only 100% certified organic nuts and seeds are used, which means no toxic pesticides, chemicals, or genetically modified organisms. No salt, sugar, preservatives or artificial flavors are added. All products are gluten, peanut, and dairy free, KSA Kosher certified, and certified organic."
So is the tahini:
"Naturally high in calcium and iron, Black Sesame Tahini has long been used in Chinese Medicine for health benefits. Its rich, complex flavor and mild, nutty undertones can liven up almost any recipe! 8-oz. jar.

I understand your concern having heard about certain "raw" nut butters being pasteurized myself.

I WAS HAVING A SLIGHT PANIC ATTACK JUST BY THE THREAD TITLE.........what's going on???
Maranatha is not really RAW they use raw almonds but in their preparation they use high levels of heat. They say it's more economical for them and at this time they cannot produce a reallly raw almond butter. sorry to disappoint you

More then likely what they are meaning about the peanut butter is that like most unshelled nuts in stores is the way companies get the nut from the shell. They but the nuts in hot water to loosen them up and then run them in some type of a machine. Some rawers say nuts done like that are not raw anymore because of the heat of the water.
