Hi
I'm looking into juicing wheatgrass and making rejuvelac.
I love growing sprouts, so thought i might take it a step further....
I have done a little research and would like to hear from those of you who have tried this.

What are the benefits?
Do you think its worth it?
I Would love to hear about your personal experiences
In anticipation.......!

hi indi , heres a site with good info = www.wheatgrassexpress.com , on left side of page click benefits of wheat grass which brings you to a very informative page . i grow mine in plastic dish pans with 3" of soil , cover with 1/4" soil , water every 3 day , week later its 5" and i cut it off at soil level by rate of about 200 blades per , then i cut these blades into 1/2" bits and blend on high in blender half full of water , then let sit for say 15 minute so the minerals can leach out into water . the benifits im seeking from reading are to alkalize my system , to detox , to oxygenate my blood , to get some b12 because am strict vegan of 13 years , to get just about all my vitamin and mineral needs . and though ive only been drinking this 2 months i do feel its giving me an energy boost , itll take more time but its striking me as something im going to keep doing for sure . i do feel its worth it because ive read the opinions of many people whos opinions i respect that highly tout it and its easy plus cheap to grow , them 2 factors combined with the facts that its proper tasting to me and has been chemically analyzed to contain a wide variety of the most important vitamins and minerals we need make it so . its a no lose venture with a possibly very high/healthy upside . good day :)

Indi, I tried it and the juice literally made my stomach burn like fire. I just can't do it. I prefer to get my juiced greens in the green smoothie I just discovered.

The equipment is spendy so you may want to try the wheatgrass juice at a juicebar a few times first before you make the investment. Luckily I was able to return mine.

As far as the trays, dirt, seeds, etc. it's not all that bad. Following Michigan's advice can probably get set up for under $100 including the juicer which we sell for $44.95 including shipping ~ plus Ca. tax if located there.

As far as the juice goes, it's one of the most beneficial juices one can drink. Thousands of people have healed themselves w/ the drinking of wheatgrass juice.

Great replies
Thank you all
I would like to try it before i invest in the equipment, but the only juice available in local juice bars is not organic.

They also tend to grow the grass on the street, where traffic passes, so it has never realy appealed to me!
I will buy a small amount and see how i get on..
Thanks for the links

On your burning stomach, I just wanted to say that just a few weeks ago, I did a bit of reading about wheatgrass juice, and what I read was that you're only supposed to drink one ounce and see how your body handles it. Then, every few days/week, as you get used to it, you can up the amount in one ounce increments. What I read was that if you drank too much of it, it would cause stomach upset. Did you drink more than an ounce? Just curious.

Also, could you post your green smoothie recipe please? This green smoothie thing is new to me...I'm assuming it's just vegetables in a blender? Do you add water to it also?

Yes, I tried doing it a little at a time, but I guess I'm just too sensitive right now. Maybe I'll try it again later sometime.

The Green Smoothie is awesome and easy and I could live on them all day long.

Basic instructions are 60% raw organic ripe fruit, 40% greens. Whip it up and love it!

My standard recipe is:

Coconut Juice (I open one every 2 days)
3/4 inch slice of Pineapple
1 or 2 bananas
Some frozen berries
then I fill the blender up with a few leaves of Kale, which I've stripped from the stem. Or this week I used nettles, which are growing everywhere here right now. I got mine at the farmer's market. Or you can use spinach (unless you have kidney stones)

You can use any combination that appeals to you as long as its 60% fruit to 40% greens.

When bananas are on sale, I buy them, peel them, put them in freezer bags and freeze them. Then I just grab one of those. It's nice to have something cold in it.

If you don't use coconuts, you can use either fresh juice or water. Or, sometimes I use the water from soaking dates or other fruits. But a little plain water works too... just enough to get the blender moving good.

Experiment... you'll LOVE them!
Report back! ::grin:::

By the way, I just learned about these last week and have been doing them ever since. There is an entire webpage on them. Do a search on this website for Green Smoothies or do a google.

What I read was that if you drank too much of it, it would cause stomach upset.

I have a friend who did an experiment and w/in a couple of weeks was drinking 24 oz of wheatgrass juice a day for 2-3 days. Everything depends on the person. No one flinches when someone drinks a 42 oz. cup of soda yet, 24 oz. of wheat grass juice? Yikes!!!!

For awhile I was drinking 4 oz. a day. Best I ever felt.

I don't drink soda, so I wouldn't know.

I don't recall flinching.. I just drank it with a positive attitude and great hopes for healing. Then my stomach was on fire.

No thank you. There are other ways of healing myself.

But gosh, I'm glad it worked for you!

My post was a post in general ~ not directed towards you. Just stating my friend's experience and mine as well.

Revell (or anyone).. have you ever put wheatgrass juice in a green smoothie?
How'd it taste?

They have the grass up at the market here... maybe I'll try that.

I've not put it in a smoothie although I've put it in juice. As one person told me ~ why ruin a good juice? Personally, I prefer to drink the wg first, then follow w/ something that tastes good.

I've been growing and juicing wheat grass for several weeks because I've read that it is so beneficial for the immune system. I sprout the wheat first, until the sprouts are about the length of the kernel and then I just sprinkle them over about an inch of soil and keep them watered. When the grass is between 4" - 6" long I cut it close to the bottom with scissors and put it through the juicer. I use the clear plastic tubs from the 1 lb. of field greens to grow it in. I can't say I truly enjoy the taste of the wheat grass juice but I sure like the way it makes me feel - like I'm doing my body a huge favour! I would rather drink it by itself than mix it in with the rest of my fresh vegetable cocktail because the taste can be somewhat overpowering, depending, of course on how much you use.

As for rejuvelac, I decided to make it once after reading about Ann Wigmore and others extol its virtues and telling how enjoyable and refreshing it was. I found it totally disgusting. To me it smelled like vomit - not at all appetizing.

I like wheatgrass juice now after 3 months raw with a lot of greens in smoothies and salads, and just learned to make kale chips. I hated the taste in summer though.
I just started to drink it a week ago, not much-2 or 3 ounces a day, because I have just one tray for a week-I bought it at farmers market. I am sprouting now rye and will try growing rye grass for juice too.
I am sure you can add ot to smoothies or mix it with sweet juice-like orange. But the truth is that whole greens are still better for you. When you juice, you loose fiber and possibly tons of other important nutrients, science knows just 10 percent of nutrients as you know.

GinLA,

If you want to try a good alternative to wheatgrass I'd suggest barley, not rye. Many who have difficulties with wheatgrass tolerate barley much better. It's also the basis of several of the most highly recommended green juice powders.

But as I mentioned elsewhere, fresh dandelion is also extremely good, and considered by some on a par with wheatgrass. But it IS bitter. I usually just hold my nose and gulp it down.
