Hello everyone!
I have a couple of questions about wheat.
1. I have been looking for "wheat berries" in our local stores and all I find is "whole wheat". Is that the same? and is it raw?
2. Also, Wheat is often a problematic food for individuals with autism. Has anyone found that using sprouted wheat eliminates the issue of the "opiod effect" they often experience?
3. It has also been implicated in rhuematoid arthritis (for a different reason, as a trigger to the immune system), and again, I am wondering if in its sprouted form this is not an issue?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!Deb

Hi Debbyd,

If you or a loved one have had sensitivities to wheat in the past although of course sprouted is better for you I would not use wheat berries. What does the "whole wheat" look like, I think they are probably different?

I stay away from almost all grains. You can use buckwheat which is actually a fruit or sprout kamut or spelt to replace wheat berries in recipes.

good luck

I have 2 with autism adn I've *read* that wheat grass and sprouted wheat are okay-but I'm not takin' any chances. I guess there is a small window when it is okay, but if you miss it you coul dbe in big trouble, KWIM?

I've heard and read (can't remeber where though) that wheat is bad for those with autism, adhd, ect.(well, for anyone actually, but more so), but I think they're talking about the regular wheat in cooked products, so I'm not sure if sprouted things would be better, but I wouldn't chance it.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I think I have decided better safe than sorry with the wheat! Although I may give the grass a try with my little guy...but not the sprouted grains.
Thanks for your help.
