Hi,
does anybody here know why I have allergic reaction on celery when blended or on green stem celery when ordinaly chewed? When I eat normal piece of celery (no processing), there is no problem. The reaction is difficult brething, as when having asthma. Thanks in advance.

The beginning part I'm a little confused about, but if anything is causing you difficulty in breathing DO NOT HAVE IT. Allergic reactions can be very harmful and turn on a dime :( Could you clarify the beginning sentence for me?

Gabriel Cousens writes about celery between foods that have substances, that in bigger amounts can make some people react bad. I just had the book from library - Conciuous Eating, so I can not look up for you.
It had several more foods in there, not just celery.

Oh, sorry. English isn't my mother language so maybe this is the problem. So again and better the first sentence:

It happens when the celery (root) has been blended (processed). Green stem celery causes same problems.
Is that better? :-)

Pleas look up that. Thanks.

Advid, what are your symptoms? You may be detoxing faster than is comfortable. Rawkinlocs has talked about her daughter having similar reactions to certain raw foods in the beginning. So they left those foods out. Later they were able to reintroduce the foods with no problem. I have read elsewhere that the leaves are slightly toxic and should not be used.
If you have never had a problem with celery in the past and it has just started since you increased raw foods, it is detox.

Teri: Hard to say if it's detox. A have never eaten processed celery nor green stem celery before I went raw so I can't compare. Anyway, I have gone through some fasts so it shouldn't be a detox. And I have these symptoms (similar to asthma=difficult breathing) only when eating celery or cooked food (cheese or chips) so it is like sign "Dont eat this". Maybe the toxins as you say.
Advid,
Yes, if you have never eaten celery before in your life and are now having trouble breathing it is best not to eat it. Any great distress is a sign to stop whatever is triggering it.
I do want you to know for future reference that the human body can not become clean within days, weeks, or even months no matter what we do, after eating cooked food for a lifetime. People who stay 100% raw and transition to eating only plain fruit and greens still have detox years later. One woman said that after 4 years of eating only raw she started tasting foods from her childhood. She was detoxing foods she had eaten more than 30 years earlier, and had not eaten since that time.
It is a process for sure. One that is well worth it.

Hi Teri
, I know that by becoming raw vegan I don't clean my body in few weeks. But I was told in forum dedicated to water fast that 21 days fast is a total restart of organism. So I thought that I am clean until I tried liver/bladder cleansing two weeks ago. Now I know how clean/dirty approximately my body is. Fasting doesn't clean everything, but helps a LOT. Thanks.

I wonder if it could be a reaction to pecticides on the plant. Do you have the same reaction with certified organic? Celery also creates a chemical to defend itself when threatened, which makes it quite bitter if mishandled. That's one reason I never buy a half celery - they never taste the same.
I agree - any reactionlike that should be a clear indication that's not something your body wants right now!

Hi David,
I can tell you about myself.
when I used to eat SAD, I would react allergically to tomatoes, oranges, lemons, celery, lettuce and grapefruit.
I thought I was allergic to these foods.
But I found out that I was allergic to dairy products, so I would react to other foods.
So, If I didn't eat any dairy, then I could eat all the tomatoes, oragnes, lemons celery lettuce and grapefruit I wanted, but if I ate one bite of dairy foods, I would react very badly to these other foods.
so, you may or may not be allergic to celery, but you might also be allergic to something else, that makes you react to celery.
Hello David,
I would have to agree with Sheryl...try organic celery and see if you have a reaction. I know that non-organic celery has tonsssssss of toxins and pesticides you may be reacting to. If you still react to it....I would just avoid it for a month and try it after a while away from it.....
Best wishes,
JMD
