I was a vegan following McDougall's recommendations for 9 years before going raw. I was very disciplined with it. I did not ever eat the vegan junk food. No sugar or natural sweeteners etc... I also ate very high raw during most of this time because it made me feel good and I LOVE fruits and greens.I have also eaten gluten free the whole time because I have Celiac Disease.
Then during my fourth pregnancy at the beginning of my third trimester I went totally raw because of migraine problems. They went away...yeah!! :p I transitioned slowly because I didn't want to detox. By the time the baby was born, I was 100% with an occasional meal here or there that had a cooked food. I always choose something healthy though, like lentils over my greens or a baked potato along with my HUGE salad.
When the baby was 2 weeks old I went 100% and have been detoxing every since then. I haven't lost a single pound since coming home from the hospitlal. In fact, I have gained weight a bit. Normally with my other pregnancies I was already back to my prepregnancy weight by now.
I have been exercising 5-6 days per week since the baby was 1 1/2 weeks old.
At first when I went raw I was eating some nuts, seeds and avocados. But I cannot tolerate the nuts and seeds no matter if they are soaked or not. I get horrible gas, pain and bloated.
So, this week I have transitioned to Dr. Graham's approach of 811. I also do green smoothies and still there is no change at all in my weight. But my stomach feels much better and the gas and pain is gone.
While McDougalling I never had a problem keeping my weight 15 pounds less than I am now for all of those years. All this while eating lots of potatoes, grains etc... along with my high raw stuff.
Any ideas?

I really feel for you as we don't want to see anyone feel hopeless and less empowered. I should say, I am not attempting to diagnose but shed light on some details that may offer some contructive possibilites and help you take control to make sense of it all. This may very well be another person's yourney too so you are helping them as well............
Back to BUSINESS................ :)
LOL.....I was thinking about you before bed last nite and the characteristics of this condition is what I was sensing........I even thought possibly an autoimmune type of condition as well.
Do you get cold hands or feet? Nails healthy?
How do you generally feel energy wise?
If you do exercise, more energy or tired? Any sinus issues or coughing?
Any history of mense issues? How are they now?
Any discoloration under your eyes?
Bowels--consitent,texture and color?
Anything that you can think of?
I was thinking that your body may not be absorbing the neccessary nutrients to facilitate some of these functions that would cleanse, detox, repair that would offer weightloss.
ONLY MY PERSONAL OPINION:
I would suggest starting with repairing the stomach lining. I am a big believer in do this. With all the stress, pollutants, foods and toxins, chances of having a irritated or damaged lining is more than likely. Once that lining is compromised, in your case Celica pre-existing, toxins flow into the bloodstream instead of traveling out via colon. Once that happens, liver is overworked and stresses out kidneys too. It's kind of a titter totter effect. My wording very brief and simple as I do not want to try and be scientific. :D The liver is the KING of blood flow, bile, filtering toxins etc etc........
I'll wait to hear back from you before I offer so more suggestions. ;)
Hope for Faith,
ml :)

So how do I repair the stomach lining? I believe you might be onto something. I am 32 years old and was diagnosed with osteoporosis a few years ago. I just had another bone scan since going raw and it is getting better. Praise God!!
I also have hypothyroidism and have been on natural medicine for 5-7 years. I know after having this last baby that my thyroid level took a nose dive during my pregnancy as well as after the birth. My dr. didn't want to up the dosage becuase of my bone problem.
Considering that I am up 2-3 times a night nursing my baby I do really well with my energy levels. I can only connect that to being raw because I am able to get up pretty early to exercise and I don't nap during the day. All of my friends with new babies don't exercise, sleep late and nap during the day. Raw has helped me so much in that area.
I have always had a hard time with my digestive system. Since doing more of a 811 style raw diet my stomach has completely settled down.
Oh, back to the bone thing......my bone dr. believes I still have a malabsorption problem even though I have been on a strict gluten free diet for so long. He wants me to go see a gastro dr. I can't have any of the tests that they want to do because I am nursing.
Yes, I have always had cold hands and feet but they are actually better since going raw. I haven't been cold at all this winter. I don't know if that is because I am postpartum though because it does affect your body temp.
My nails have always been weak, they still are.
Exercise has always given me more energy. I LOVE to workout!!
I went for 5 years of secondary infertility problems. I had gone through anorexia and then focused on getting healthy. Well, I went overboard and exercised so much that my body fat got so low that my periods stopped and I stopped ovulating. That has been better now for 3-4 years.
No, nothing under my eyes.
Bowels are great although blackish green since I have been doing the green smoothies so I keep thinking it is because of that. :p
I think I answered all of your questions!!
let me know what you think.
Thanks a bunch!!

Okay Misslinda,
I am just dying to hear your suggestions.Anything?? :o
I have switched over to Dr. Graham's style 811 a couple of weeks ago. I feel better as far as my digestive system but still no weight loss. In fact, I am gaining again. I can't believe this. I have never had this happen to me. I am exercising like crazy too.
fAITH..
I am so so so sorry for your struggle and major frustration.
We are so similar with our celiac and thyroid issues. I do not have major advice only to tell you that you are not alone. I , too, have tried the no fat higher fat all fruit no fruit approach. I have done it all. The longer i have been raw the heavier i am getting...and i am so frustrated. The low fat approach was hard on my nerves...but I found a middle groud is better...
What I am doing now seems most workable . I consume mostly veggies, some fruit in the am either blended or eaten alone...and some avocado and one ounce of soaked almonds daily with lots of yoga and some cardio 4 times a week. I am trying this for a month and seeing what happens. It is good to see so many drop weight doing 100% raw...but sad when i don't. We did not have "bad" food plans beforehand so maybe that is it????
Wishing us patience and diligence...summer is coming is my latest mantra!!
Peace,
JMD

Hey Faith,
I didn't see this post you did. Did you get my pm?
what are you eating as of the last week (in general) before the weightgain? do you a puffy feeling before the actual weight gain or like body gets alittle more warm? anything prior to the noticed weightgain?

I have been eating 811 (aka Dr. Graham style) for the last couple of weeks. I didn't notice anything different as far as how I felt before gaining the weight.
I feel less bloated eating this way compared to the higher fat raw way.
I have been exercising 6 days per week sometimes twice a day too.
What is a pm, Misslinda? I don't know what it is so I don't think I got it. :p
Thanks!
