View Full Version : Pregnant, Craving cooked!!

Help, since I have been pregnant, I have not had one, not one, 100% raw day! It is so very frustrating. I start out my day with the feelings of "today, I am going to stay 100% raw." Then by midafternoon, I am hungry and want more than fruit, or veggies. I haven't wanted any green smoothies because I am so cold. I can't seem to get warm. I was eating green smoothies with kale, but since I have been pregnant I can't stomach the kale, and have been craving spinach anyway. Seems the only raw food I can get down with out a stomach ache is oranges or other citrus.
Has anyone out there been raw and pregnant? How did you deal with morning sickness? Cooked food generally tends to make it worse for me, but I have more energy when I eat it, particularly meat/eggs. That seems to be what I am craving most, meat and eggs. I normally cant even look at an egg while I am pregnant. (this is my 11th pregnancy, 7th baby)
Perhaps a lack of calories, raw calories I mean, push me toward cooked? I know, you don't know what I am eating. Mostly citrus. I have made nut burgers, but generally they dont taste good or stay down. I have tried the avocado thing, but same reaction.

When I was pregnant with my son, I was not even a raw foodist, but still, like you, all I wanted to eat was citrus. And nuts, occasionally. I was not much interested in anything else. I think that it is quite OK to eat one type of fruit for as long as one wants. In the distant past, when humans found a big tree with some delicious fruit, they probably would not leave it until it was bare. So, I feel excused when I only want to eat one thing. Besides, all that vit. C is probably doing wonders for the little one.
All the best,

early pregnancy is a time when the body is detoxing to protect that precious babe your ushering into this world. That's what morning sickness and exhaustion is about (yes, the hormones are there, but they tell the body to detox). how about just having the less toxic cooked foods, like vegetable soup, baked potatoes, steamed veggies? I have never been raw pregnant, in fact I was cheese burger, chocolate milkshake with fries pregnant, so I certainly can't speak with experience, but I DO know about the detox thing. Like cravings could be coming from that.

How long were you raw before getting pregnant and were you 100 percent? I am interested, because we are planning to become pregnant in the fall and I am 100 percent raw just 3 months now, so I am wondering if I might have the same problem. I was 7 months nauseated all my waking time so bad, I did not want to live. All I could stand was fruit, but I did try to stuff myself crackers and other stuff, but had no meat for 6 months, because could not even look at it. I hope to clean out enough at least not to have it as bad next time...

Call or email this lady now and she will be very helpful and encouraging to you!!! She is a raw food chef/consultant/MIDWIFE in Nevada.
When I first found out that I was pregnant, I called her and got so much encouragement that I was following the right path regarding raw. She confirmed my belief (our opinion, anyway :) ) that nausea is usually caused by lack of nutrients. Sometimes we think we'll get more nauseous if we eat fruits and veggies, and maybe we will initially, but more nutrition is really what our body needs. And not only to fight off nausea, but for the growing baby inside!
I've actually been having the same problem. I know what I need to do, and I know what is best for my body and the baby, but I just can't seem to stay on track! It's very frustrating. I have one thing in my favor though.....I haven't been nauseous at all. But that should make it easier for me to stay raw!!!
Did you join the RawPregnancy (http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawpregnancy) group on Yahoo? It's starting to pick up more! :D

Thanks so much for all of your encouragement. I have been back on raw for five days now and feel so so so much better.
I was raw 100% starting three days before thanksgiving, partially before that since August. I stopped being 100% again around the 18th of January. I am back on and feel great.
Cindy, thanks for the tip about the raw midwife, i will give her a call.
