I eat them however I fancy them. Plain, or with a nut in the middle, or blended with nuts and rolled into balls, turned into a recipie, etc. They are tastey little critters!

I love to split & seed them, then put a walnut or cashew in the middle, then fold the date around it and eat it. It's like eating a gooey caramel candy. Especially with the Barhi dates I use... they are AWESOME.
I don't care too much for madjool dates. Too hard and I don't like the taste.
If you aren't sure you might consider ordering one of the small assortments the date farms offer so you can see the differences in all the different varieties.

Oh goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
these cockraoches are my favorite. I have yet to add these to my food list--transitioning after fasting..............but yes. I do eat them they way they are but soak them first. Although I love them without soaking too. :(
When I first started raw over a year ago, I would eat a bagful and be like YuuuuuuMmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeee. Satisfied! :)

Miss linda,
I can never eat a date again. It would be nice if you didnt use that " C word " when you are talking bout food.

Hi,
I love date as nature intended, or coconut date logs (yuuuummm), or once I blended dates, some water and carob in the blender and put it in a container and I just eat it with a spoon. That was pretty good too.

Well, I eat them as is... also soaked and blended into a caramel sauce and dip apple slices into it (Yum!), split and put a pecan inside and wow rich and delicious, and also I put them into most of my smoothies. I'd never even eaten a date until I started on raw foods, now I go through pounds of them in no time at all!
I like medjool dates plain, pited and spread with either almond butter or tahini, or soaked and blended with the soak water as a substitute for maple syrup. They are good, good, good. That is why I don't get them but maybe 2 or 3 times a year. I will honestly eat too many. How many is too many? Last time I got 4 pounds and ate them all in about 2 weeks! Can we use the term date-aholic?

That's so funny you call them cockroaches. Whenever I eat them (medjool) the seeds look like little cockroaches to me and I have to try really hard to ignore that!!! :p

Misslinda and DrPr, the medjools actually look very similar to the woods roaches we have here in FL. Haven't tried eating dates in the woods yet but would be very careful. Yuck yuck yuck ooooo! OK, this has not dampened my desire for dates one fraction of a micron.

I love dates, especially stuffed with crispy pecans (dehydrated). What a treat. Cockroaches, ROFL too funny. :D

I love to eat them as they are, probably eating too many at once. I've tried them in a smoothie with grapes (great for a bit o'cleansing if need be) but no actual recipes with them yet. Alissa's book should be arriving any day now so if she has some recipes that include them I'll be happy to oblige. :)

misslinda -
my husband and i live in manhattan where cockroaches run wild if you're not careful, and your post reminded me of a story. i was in the kitchen cleaning up a few nights ago when my husband (big, burly man) walked into the kitchen and screamed like a little girl, pointing at something on the floor and yelling, "cockroach! cockkkkrrrroach!"
it was a date, and i have never laughed so hard.

Oh MAN! This is the best thing I've heard all day :::off to soak some dates:::
I just love that caramel dip and those Barhi dates taste JUST like caramel.
I'm laughing at the cockroach comments. That's what I used to call dates when my SO ate them, until I found the Barhi's.... now I'll even eat medjools if they're soaked. But caramel sauce... I'm dying!
