OKay I'm very new to this and have been looking forever to see what I can and can't eat. I've thrown most of my old foods away but was curious about some of them. I have a cape cods all natural vinegerette dressing and then also air popped popcorn. Can I eat that or does that count as cooked. Most likely but I just wanted to make sure. Also, if anyone knows about adding things like salt to food is wrong. THese are just some things I couldn't find but thought were pretty basic.

Yes, I think any store bought salad dressing is cooked and popcorn is cooked as well. As for salt, you can use raw celtic sea salt, many find that their bodies can not tolerate too much, so you will have to judge that for yourself-if you are trying to go 100% raw, you will want to make sure that the salt is really raw.

The foods you listed are not considered raw...they are cooked.

Celtic sea salt is what many use as an alternative to processed table salt.

Thankyou so much for answering so fast, you saved me from ruining my first day. I want to go 100 percent raw from day one. Till I know what I can and can't eat I'm going to stick to mainly fruit and try some of the recipes i've found. I've very excited to start seeing results!

Welcome to eating raw and to the board, Macy! It's so great to see you wanting to do this thing 100% from the begining! I started 100% raw too at the end of January. My friend wanted to start over this Monday so I'm doing this thing all over again with her! It is so much fun with this message board and all. I can't imagine going raw w/o it! The people on here are great!
Hope to hear a lot from you on here.

Hi, and congratulations on being raw, You're so right, it IS exciting, even for us who've been on this board a while.

You will find that anything in a can or bottle isn't going to be raw, unless it was packed without heat, some things are, but then they'll be in the refridgerated section, things like this might be raw tahini, or raw nut butters, or raw olives.

but basically if it's canned or bottled, it's heated, which means it's not raw.

then there will be some things labeled raw, that aren't like

sugar in the raw--don't eat this stuff, LOL

then there will be stuff that isn't raw, but is okay because it is living, like miso, I use Chick Pea miso.

But the word of thumb is here, eat all the fresh fruits, veggies nuts and seeds that you like.

either buy or make your own fresh juices, and eat as much raw foods as you wish.

Get Alissa's book and DVD, as it has great recipes, easy to make stuff, a food plan and shopping list for the first month, the DVD shows you how to make things and it teaches you so much, I struggled for a long time trying to get things right, I saw the DVD and I was an expert. LOL almost.

anyway, ask lots of questions, we're here to help, and know that we were ALL of us, each and every one of us, where you are now, just starting, in fact some of us (me included) start over and over and over again,

I'm a great started, I've got that part down perfectly.

glad to have you.
